Ideas about guilds signes in game
« on: May 11, 2003, 11:20:58 pm »
Still waiting for  reply about joining Planeshift team so i have decided to put my ideas with pictures  about guild signes.
Guild signes should have 4 customizable objects
1 )Shield - you could choose one from 10 available and set your own color
2)Border - with similar shape to the shiled but you can set diffrent color then shield
3)Main sign -you could choose one from 40-50   available and set your own color
4)additional signes - some objects around main symbol
(stars ,skulls ,moons ,suns...) with your own color

On picture (big one)

you can see shields with borders and main signes

here you can see rest of main symbols  and additional signes (green colour). Below you can see ready guild sign

How do you know he\'s applying to be a member of the team because of his ideas? How do you know he?s not a coder or something?

But anyhoo, Stygius: I like your ideas. If there were a way to keep the signs from repeating (like, once a sign has been registered for a guild, no other guild can use that combination), that would be quite a good idea for the game. Perhaps then a member of a guild would have to buy the shield, then go to a higher-ranking member of the guild with artistic talent so that the shield could be decorated with the guild emblem.

By the way, Mr. Rex, I\'ve read that book as well. Waiting for the sequel to come out *wink wink*.

I like the idea of guilds having their own type of coat of arms or something like that on their guild house or something.   I\'m pretty sure that we will have something like this.  Maybe something like you said where you have a selection of things that you can build up a coat of arms.

People like to customize things and I think that this is a good way.  As to how we will do it, I cannot say yet.

This is filed under \'Something that may eventually get done\' :).  There are many good ideas that come around and we file them away as for things to assign to new developers looking for something to do.

Well i am not applying  becouse of my ideas but for 3d/2d section . Well about guild shields/signes . I think
they should have been hardcoded in game so no additional downloading each time when guild needs new sign. But as i said before signes should be high customizable so this way you could get around 1 million
combinations

You could also give every guild a tiny bit of webspace (a couple of KB) on the planeshift server where the leader can upload a crest/coat of arms (in .gif or .jpg format). That picture would then be imported in the game as a texture (or maybe the leader had to make it a texture and upload the texture).
That way there would be a lot of artistic freedom and guilds could make a crest/coat of arms that suits them. This also prevents from multiple crests/coat of arms eventually looking alike because the guild ran out of options.  ;)

This could be controlled by only letting officially recognized guilds have their own, leader-submitted guild crest. All other small guilds could have the selection option for theirs.

About guild-signes. Me and Yann has been talking about some sort of \"invisible\" sign. Perhaps a pendant, or a banjana. Something that only guildmembers can see. This would allow secret guilds to work on another level, bringing RP to another level, or so I think. This symbol could shine for everybody in the guild, but look like a normal pendant for people outside the guild.

I like the ideas for the invisible signs.

It seems slightly wierd how games automatically show you what guild or clan people are in when you don\'t even know them. In real life you wouldn\'t know untill you met them or joined their group.

PS would be a welcomed break from the norm if you didn\'t actually know what dark, secret cults people might be in untill you get a little closer...

I like the idea of invisible signs/tatoos to guild members. In real life some secret organisations also use secret handshake-codes. This can identify them not only as a member of a secret society but even their rank within it.

If members of a guild in PS can identify each other secretly, seeing or feeling an identifying mark or code, this will add a lot of realism and excitement into the game.

Another idea could be that members of guilds can also see the rank of the other character in their own guild.
Guilds that are allied can possibly also see each other\'s guild affiliation but not rank.

Secret Guilds...
« Reply #13 on: July 07, 2003, 08:14:50 pm »
But the thing about secret guilds is currently all anyone would have to do is type /who and it tells what guild the person is in and their rank in the guild too.

Edit: So basically, that\'d have to be taken out if you were going to go with the secret guild idea, or perhaps or simply make it an option the guild leader chooses to have it recognized in /who or not.

I like the idea on making it optional. Some guild might want to be secret and some may want to be known. It depends on the guild. The option of making it secret or not should be up to the guild leader.
