Possibly being stupid and need help
« on: April 11, 2010, 10:31:30 pm »
'ello! Tinwei/Suati here!

So I decided maybe I'll get back into Planeshifting today. So I figure I'll update it right (last time I played was pretty long ago)? So it says I need to run it as admin so I'm thinking "okay I'll just change the permissions"

Unfortunately this is what comes up when I look up 'info' on the PS folder

Maybe I'm just being stupid but I just can't find where the button is to edit info :/

I'd appreciate if you help out a used-to-be-frequent player :)

If you can't tell by the pic I'm on a mac.

Don't you need to change permissions on the file instead of the folder?
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Well... How about just redownloading the whole client? That is usually the easiest way if you have problems updating.

Or if you want to try, you can open the Terminal app from the Utilities subfolder of your Applications folder. Next, type "cd /Applications/planeshift" (without the quotes, assuming you have ps in /Applications/planeshift) after that (you will need to be on an admin account at this point) type "sudo open pslauncher.app" (again, without quotes), enter your password and you should have an open pslauncher with admin rights. However, if you have problems updating, try "sudo open pslaunch.app --args --repair". If you do it that way, it won't open any windows, the pslaunch icon will just appear in the dock. If you want to check what it's doing, take a look at the Console application in /Applications/Utilities.

Please ask for clarification if you have trouble understanding that, my explainings tend to confuse the "victim" more than it already is.

Maybe, but that picture looks the same for any file I look at the info at.

I'll try it later. I'm being bothered to go outside and help plant flowers :P I'll let you know if this works or not :)

I'd use good ol' terminal - chown and chmod 777 - because security is for losers.

You have moved the planeshift folder from the dmg file you downloaded and moved the game file into your applications folder correct? From the image you gave it looks like you haven't moved the planeshift folder into your applications folder and you are running it form the dmg you downloaded. If you run the game from the dmg then you will get the problem of not having permission to update the file(s)

Thank you Sarva for saving me from my stupidity! :D

Now I guess, y'all will start seeing Tinwei running around Hydlaa again eh? Or maybe not if I'm recalling her last 'misfortune'.........

Geoni straps Tinwei to the fountain so she doesn't get in any more misfortunes.  :sweatdrop:  :P
