[GUILD/ORGINIZATION] The Coliseum
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:39:01 am »
Overview

The overall concept of The Coliseum is actually quite simple. It will be a guild where fighters can join (But are not required to), along with trainers, book keepers, etc. The fighters who join the guild are on much more of a stable ground salary wise, as in, fighters in the guild will receive pay win or lose. (But are expected to win) Fighters in the guild also also receive unlimited access to trainers (No, not the kind that give you skills, just as swordsmanship, the kind that give you advice, prep you for a fight, etc) These fighters also receive extra access to in guild media. Such as interviews. However, note that if a fighter wishes to join, fighting is your JOB, not your hobby that gets you tria now and then, this is what you DO. And it is my job to make it worth your while.

There is no set salary for every fighter, if you are good, you will get more money. If you win, you will get more money. Simple, right? The vast majority of the fights will be non-lethal, however, if an agreement can be reached by both fighters, then we will set a sudden death fight. Literally. Loser is no longer allowed to fight in the Coliseum.

I don't want to resort to charging everyone who wants to watch a fight tria to get in. First off, it would be impossible to control, second, no one would show up. So here's the deal:

Fights

The fights will not be a one-and-done kind of deal. We will have up to 4 fights scheduled per fight date. (bets will only be taken on the main event) We will have a main event in which the best match-up of the evening will be featured. This will receive most of our attention, and this is the one you would show up for.. in theory. (Exceptions would be like going to be Kimbo Slice fight. He sucks, and you know he is gonna get his *** beat, but you want to watch anyway)

Fight Details

One fight will consist of three rounds. We will assign a referee (Trainer pathway) that will study the fighters for any sign of cheating. Such as using potions or spells. The round will continue until one fighter manages to knock the other fighter down and disarm him, or the round has been too long without any offense shown by either fighter, then the referee will declare a stalemate, in which we will pick a winner based on their injuries (Health). If a fighter wins the first two rounds, the fight is over, if the wins are split, we will go to the third round. As mentioned, there will be NO KILLING unless permitted before the fight.

Gambling

Betting on fights is just like betting on boxing. The numbers represent how much of a favorite, or underdog the fighters are. The Coliseum will closely examine the fighters and determine the odds of the fight. If a -5000 is next to someones name, they are a 5:1 favorite. If there is a +1500 next to someones name, they are a 1.5:1 underdog. Your odds are much worse if you bet on the +1500 guy, but there is much more profit.

Example

So, here is another example.

Jeff Smith: -5000

Frank Brown:+1500

Bettors who wager on Smith will have to risk $5000 to win $1000, while bettors who wager on Brown are asked to risk $1000 to win $1500.

If the number has a "-" that is the favorite to win the fight. If the number has a "+" that is the underdog. Simple as that. The betting system is built around 1000s. If you wanted to bet on Jeff, you would have to bet 5000 to get 1000 in return. If you bet on Frank, 1000 tria would get you 1500. It is quite simple when you think about it. Once you get into "+" that means you are doubling your profit and then some. -1000 and +1000 mean the same thing.

So.. say someone came up to me and wanted to bet 30,000 tria on Frank. First, they would pay their 2,000 tria entry fee. This is to ensure that we don't lose money on the situation, and that people don't bet 50 tria, for example.

So, then, they would lay down their 30,000. Frank is the +1500 underdog, and he pulls the upset. That means that the better made a 150% profit of 45,000. They are given back a total of 75,000 tria.

Now, let's say a different better bet 30,000 on Jeff, Jeff is the -5000 favorite, which means for every tria 5 tria you bet, you get 1 in profit. So if you bet 30,000, you would get 6,000 profit. A total of 36,000 tria in return.

If anyoen still doesn't get it, just look up "How to bet on boxing". it is the same thing.

Edit

Due to the fact that the gambling system will be our main source of income, I have, unfortunately, come to the conclusion that in order to provide more economical stability, we must charge 2,000 tria per bet. Meaning, if you would like to bet 8,000, you must pay the 2,000 entry fee + 8,000. The 2,000 tria going directly to the pocket of the Coliseum.

Ranking system

As previously stated, we are a very loosely bound guild, with different members with different tasks. For this reason, I have decided to once again use the 3-branch pathway system. (Which I came up with, and was copied by other guilds at that time :()

What this means is, a trainer will follow a different pathway then a fighter. Anyway, here it is.

Three pathways:

Fighter- Self explanatory. Fighters who win rise through the ranks. (Note: Fighters who are in a guild and choose not to join do not follow the ranks. They simply find a worthy opponent inside or outside the guild)

Trainer- My personal favorite. This is for people who teach technique, do errands for the fighters, scan the fighters for their skills (NEED SOMEONE FOR THIS!), etc.

Book Keeper- Coliseum doesn't exist without these guys. They will keep up with who bets what, keep records of fighters, write summaries of the fights, and record interviews for public pamphlets about the Coliseum.

Ranks

Fighter
--

Gladiator- You are the average fighter in the coliseum. Don't expect a main event

Hero- You are the elite. You Will be in main events, and will receive more salary then the rest of the fighters of the night.. combined.

World Champion- There will be only one per fighting style. (Melee, swords, axes, etc) A person who uses swords can fight a person who uses axes, but that will not be a title fight. Every once in a while, we will determine the two best fighters per style, and host a title fight to find the best of the best. Once again, large saley boost.

Trainer
--

Trainer- The average person who does one of the mentioned trainer tasks. Receives pay based on amount of work put into a fight (From announcement, to cleanup)

Enforcer- The trainers that have been around a while, know their task, and do it effeciantly. You will be given more important tasks at this level, and will be in charge of closely watching others, and making sure everything runs smoothely.

Book Keeper
--

Book Keeper- The average person who does one of the mentioned book keeper tasks. receives pay based on amount of work put into a fight. (From announcement, to cleanup)

Librarian- They will look after the book keeping and make sure things are recorded to my expectations. They are paid by amount of time dedicated to Coliseum.

Overseer

This rank is for the best of the book keepers and trainers. We will vote on all important issues, and there will be no more then 6 at a time.

I have decided to run the guild with my main character, Joale, so I took out the background.

And, including the innovative naming, it was done before:

Gosh..

Now get back to the point and give the arena some (appropriate) life!

Joale's a lot of fun to rp with.
This guild could be promising if a few good people join.

Good luck Joale.

Relevant to my interests.

I.e; sticking the pointy end of something into someone

This guild has my lukewarm support.
