For new players, I would suggest literally taking them by the hand and pulling them into your role play where possible. If your character is a mean jelly bean then by all means, stalk them, make IC threats ( along with ooc explanations ), chase them around the plaza until they shout for help! put the fear of the Dakkru into them!
If your a goodie-two-shoes then pal up with them. Show them the ropes so to speak. Offer protection.
"Protection from what?" they might ask..
Well, here's a good opportunity to tell a story or two ICly.
If your a bar-fly-floozy then by all means *charm* them

* cough cough *
Get them drunk on your passion

If your a crazed black-flame worshiping miscreant, corrupt them! Entice them into becoming the next Jacula, Rigwyn, or Duraza !
Whatever you do, please
please please, don't ignore them.
Yes, they will make mistakes, say ooc things, call you by your name ( Oh lord, the world might end! ), and so on. But give them time and some space to grow and some of them may just get the hang of things and turn out to be good players.
