Newbie Linux User and Newbie to Planeshift
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:24:10 pm »
Hello all. Im having a great deal of fun with Linux...except for the difficulty of making the change from windows.

Ive been trying to install using the instructions here, but, it cant find the file to download when I typing the 'wget' command...even if I change the version number.

So, I tried downloading the binary, but, when it installs, it installs with permissions set that I cant get past. I still dont really understand the permissions in Linux.

I could do with an idiots guide to installing please.

And HI!!!

Okay...I managed to get it launching by going into the folder, opening up the terminal and running the launcher in there, but, when its updated and I click play, it looks like its doing something for a moment, then nothing happens. I click PLAY again...same thing. Im getting really frustrated with Linux at the moment.

If you go to the folder in the installation directory should you be able to start
./pslaunch --repair
or
./psclient

The second one starts the client that possibly have to be updated first (therefore the first command that does a repair and with that also the update)

It wont let me do that either. I get this all the time.

Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 731: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed!

That was discussed some topics below.  http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=36721.msg424074#msg424074
