Your English teacher deserves a brain slap. That is too short a time to make a comic, which has hardly a thing to do with literature.

Well, five minutes is too short a time to make a comic, but for all the entertaining but meaningless stuff like Scott Pilgrim or Kicka** Girl, some comics can be literature, much like for all the trashy romances and westerns, you can probably name a long list of books one might have to read in English class. You want comics that may well be literature? See Sandman and Persepolis. I'm sure there are more, but I'm just looking at what's on my own shelf right now.

I love Persopolis . That can be considered literature, but I think literature has more to do with the writing part of the comics. If I were an English teacher the only reason I'd have my class draw&write a comic is for the purpose of teaching humor or irony. My students would definitely get more than 5 minutes to do it.

“The difference between illustrated prose and comics is that in illustrated prose, the pictures illustrate the text, and in comics, the pictures are the text.” Found that here.

Also, shamefully, I forgot to mention Maus.

I'm not saying westerns are bad. In fact, I've read some good ones (given, the ones I've liked the most also teeter on the brink of the "trashy romance" category  :-[). I'm just saying they're not usually literature. Most genre fiction isn't.

"Not literature" isn't an insult, it's just a statement.

Having typed this brings a Mark Twain quote to mind - "A classic is something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read."

Pfft...westerns, easterns are better.

Anyways I think that a graphic novel has more literature element to it than the old super hero comic books. Though when it comes to books with pictures, I'm no expert. I read NOVEL novels.

Nah, I just wanted to see the reaction I get if I put a censor bar there  ;D

lolz that made my day. It's kinda true if you have the wrong group of players in the tavern.

Well actually, what I'm referring to is that there are often IC channels in WoW - "/hearthstone" is usually set in a tavern, my main's guild has a channel set in a castle all our characters live in, and my home server has a channel that acts as a radio frequency. I loathe the idea on PS, but because WoW's world is so huge and you get so many strict-PLers on the RP servers, it's much more forgivable there. xD
