As of late the main PlaneShift website contains a subsection named "Fan Art", which includes the presentation of various images created by players. We were rather surprised to find one of our very
own drawings displayed.
A few years back we had posted this drawing in both
our arts-thread on these forums and on our
website, the latter hosted in our own server. The PlaneShift staff, based on the official but rather hidden policies, is uttermost restrictive concerning the usage of their arts and content, regardless of the disputable prominent entitlement "free and open source". In the case mentioned above, PlaneShift made use of arts which were never assigned to it, hence tacitly claimed property over it. Needless to say we have never been asked for our agreement, nor would we ever give it to PlaneShift; these images were directed to the players for their enjoyment and were never intended to be used as advertisement for the game. In our opinion, there is a big difference between us posting our stuff on a forum and the team making further use of it in such a public way without permission: there is no sticky in the Fan Art section of this forum that states that anything posted there is prone to be used elsewhere without asking or that the rights over these pieces are withdrawn when they are made public there. True, the images aren't registered under any kind of license, now we wonder whether we or anybody else posting here should have done this to prevent the situation we face now. To us, this behavior of the PlaneShift staff speaks volumes:
"Take as much as you can get, return as few as possible".
We determinedly refrain from supporting PlaneShift in any way, please remove the aforementioned image "velh3ja6.jpg" from your official website.-Velh
