My Gimp Creations
« on: June 19, 2010, 05:20:18 am »
While I can't use 3d modeling programs to create stuff (I leave that to the professionals) I use Gimp to create graphics since Gimp=free program! \O/
I didn't do very well at first but then I learned what to do and I'm feeling a bit more advanced now :) I don't do too much work on my Planeshift work since I don't do it very often but I do want them to look nice ^_^

I mainly use Gimp for other websites for competition, for fun, profit in a game for a site, etc. More work is put into those :P Here are two of the good ones:

I'll see if I can make some more PS related stuff but it might be pretty slow. If you would like to see some more of my other work let me know ^_^

Wow the Gimp program was too complicated for me to learn but I'm glad that you've got a hang of it and are using it well. The new image of Sauti is somewhat fearsome looking btw :P

Keep on doing this stuff, you're great at it!

I always preferred pencil and paper :3 I have no clue how people can use gimp so easily XD

I have an ego so large it has it's own gravity. So in short, yes, everything does revolve around me.

Hey it took me a month to figure out how to make something decent! :P I like pencil and paper too but my Klyros aren't exactly the prettiest things in the world  :whistling: I'd rather draw dragons  :D

Anyways thanks for the compliments!
@Geoni, I know! I used that image because it looks more like Suati and I didn't have to do any recoloring. :)

Here's some more stuff if you want to see, they were little tribute to my favorite band AFI. I used their photos they took for their Crash Love album ^_^

If you don't like it, then find me a photo that looks more similar to Suati then. It was a lot better than my older one at least.

I see that I didn't explain what the program does very well....Gimp stands for "GNU Image  Manipulation Program" or in other words, a free Photoshop. I turned this photo:
http://www.elfwood.com/art/s/p/spyrre/angry_cat2.jpg into the sig of Suati. I do not own any stocks/renders that I have used. I only use them to create new artwork.

If you don't like what I do, then simply don't read this thread. I love making sigs and avis

I like the artistic aspect of this stuff, but I just have to ask ...

If you don't like it, then find me a photo that looks more similar to Suati then. It was a lot better than my older one at least.

... which of the images are "collaborations" with other artists. Especially this one looks excellent ...

... so I wonder if the digital art is of your craft. Of course, it is nice to design wallpapers or banners by rearranging, blending, filtering and mixing content. But the really exciting work is the digital art people create from scratch.

And yeah, thumbs up for the Gimp, I also used it for the textures of my BoniSkins package.

How do you do all of these they are all sooooo good!
Let me guess you must get like A+++++ in Art or Beyond High Excellence in Art, depending on your grading system.
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

I'm not saying i didn't like it. I am mildly criticizing, if you want the full version, talk to me directly, since i am only making positive criticism on V2 in order you learn from it.

Technically all of them are, since I take something someone else did and make something new out of it. For the specific one you pointed out I used this render:
http://www.sigbake.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=434&fullsize=1
And used a fractal to make those dots for lighting source. The rest is basically my own work with different layers, smudging, lighting and whatnot. If you want, I could send you the .xcf file and you could take a look at what I did (as long as you don't rip but I highly doubt you will :) ).

How do you do all of these they are all sooooo good!

Ahaha, you're making it sound more complicated than it really is! Naw they aren't really good compared to the other people I work with. I was touring the graphics forum of another mmorpg and people kept saying use gimp or photoshop. Since gimp was free I downloaded it. Trust me, my early work=*shudders*
An example

But that's just an early GIMP work....you should've seen the horrible work I did before this program! XD

Sorry if I reacted negatively to your comment. I'm used to harsh criticism on my work, but what you said isn't something I would be able to fix. I wouldn't be able to do anything about it unless I ask the artist who made the stock to make it again with a bunch of corrections. If you do know a way to fix it through Gimp then please do tell! I'm not a photo manipulator myself but it doesn't hurt to try :)

Thanks for clarifying this. And I would conclude for that particular example that you did some outstanding work here. Slightly raises my personal motivation for colorizing a few scribbles with the gimp one day... maybe.

To slightly modify the proportions, you can experiment with the perspective cloning tool and some deforming filters, such as "IWarp"...  but that will be very difficult to make something useful and might be beyond the permissions for using the image.

My animation fail

I forgot to make a background slide so the render doesn't disappear all the way

This is why I would fail being an animator for PS lol.

Ehm ... skeletal animations are a slightly different topic ...

But if you agree that the Kran waving is somehow distorted, then you possibly understand what a CS / PS animator needs.

By the way, there is a different animation system as well, based on ragdoll physics. Not yet used by PS...
