Extraordinarily Dumb Question, But...
« on: July 08, 2010, 03:52:35 am »
How do I even run the updater anymore? It ran automatically after reinstalling the game, but I still don't have .5.4, only the previous one, which I think is .5.3.2. I followed the instructions on updating by extracting one of the zipped files to my main Planeshift directory, now my question is... how do I run the updater like it says to do? There's no longer a valid file outside of this new PS launcher that I can click to update it manually, and I don't see a button on said PS launcher that says "Update" so... am I to assume it's supposed to run automatically? 'Cause it isn't. Is there another way?

When you start the pslauncher.app if there is an update you should get a notice automatically. If you know there is an update that you aren't getting try using the repair button. and repair the client.

Tried using the repair button, and it didn't pick up anything. I'm beginning to wonder if I extracted the "case1" file into the right directory, but all it says is the "main Planeshift dir" using its own words, which... really isn't specific at all, considering I don't know which one is the "main" one and they're split up into vast amounts.

Edit: Problem solved!

The amount of files required for updating changed between 0.5.3.x and 0.5.4 - so there was a post about an "update enabler" package which contains some additional files.

Updating from 0.5.3.x to 0.5.4.x

The alternative would be to download and install the installer package of version 0.5.4.

@ Suno:

The question itself was not extraordinarily dumb.

Only the decision to use a thread title which does not mention your problem at all... :P

Oddly enough, it still says I'm running .5.3.2. (or whatever the version was called) but not .5.4, despite having gone through a long and very excruciating updating process.

you could just as well download the 0.5.4 installer, that should make your life a lot easier :x

I added those files to the main directory, and it says I'm running 5.4, but it still crashes during the loading sequence. I'll log in okay, choose a character, but the game will stop right before the world loads, and then it will tell me I'm running an old version and need to update.
