I know this game is free right now but lets face it its no where near finished (or so ive read on the posts i cant play yet not working for me), but when it is finished and has a large community will they start charging for it?

yea thats y so many ppl are getting involved its open source.. which means ppl contribute towards the game.... its free always free

We are bound by our agreement to the Planeshift team to provide connectivity to the server free of charge. This means that the only way we can generate revenue is to use our relationship with Planeshift for publicity. Such a means is not uncommon to the open source community and is quite widespread really.

Alternatively you could always donate some $ to the Planeshift cause. How you could do that is beyond me though - I haven\'t seen any PayPal account or similar thing set up, not to mention that it\'ll be pretty tough to distribute donations considering the large number of people involved in it.

IMO being so open in nature commits Planeshift to remain free of charge, since it\'ll be damn near impossible to get 100% consensus on how any $ will be distributed or whether developers past and present agree to it to begin with.
