Apartments for Rent
« on: August 01, 2010, 06:23:37 pm »
It came as a dissapointment to me that houses were not actually for sale on PS. It must of been my mistake of confusing RP with the digitally real thing. :)

How about apartment rentals? Having long rectangular buildings with different apartments inside. One could approach an NPC landlord and rent an apartment. If rent was not kept up to date then the locks would be changed. This approach should be easier on the coding side as well, as apartments could be generic as opposed to individually created. When one goes home the generic apartment could be loaded and then simply place the personal items in their respective locations in the apartment from the database.

Having the NPC Landlord handling the evictions should keep the entire operation fairly hands off for the Administration and the generic apartment design low resource intensive for the system; while allowing characters the luxury of having a real home to put those books on the bookshelves and the fishing trophy's proudly on display; not to mention pieces of art bought from struggling artists!  ;)

I think that objects inside houses causes tons of lag, that is what they said in another thread long time ago, and had people clean up and pick up stuff in guild houses. A

I wouldn't call them "apartments" since the game is supposedly based in similarity to what we know as the dark ages.  If this request was even considered nonetheless looked at, the history of apartments should be read before any settings of it should be implemented, and if it is to be considered for implementation the team should make sure that it doesn't go against any current settings disclosed or undisclosed.  It should also not just pop up out of nowhere one day, so it should take a very long time for masons to build.

This is an idea I floated a while back, that I'll repost here...
How about this?
RR

So here's a question/ idea...

Could there be a 'boarding house' somewhere in Hydlaa and or East Hydlaa where newcomers and / or folks without guild houses might
'rent a room' for some period of time... have a key that they get from an npc after paying the appropriate rent. Then get 'locked out' if they don't pay there rent on time and have to do something to mollify the npc?

Keep the Guild houses as rewards or auctions or whatever, but create alternative housing for the rest of us?

All Medieval centers of population had taverns. The amount of these taverns was based on the demand for rooms, usually from travelers.

Permanent residents of cities lived in anything from a simple thatched house to a palace, and if there was any housing akin to an apartment complex, it was not a commercial business, mainly one family or friend accommodating another.

Even in Roman times there were apartment blocks. They are as old as Landlords themselves.  :)

I don't see the conflict of having something like apartments in-game. They are simply small, affordable renting housings. You find those inside of inns and taverns - why not some for the permanent residents of Hydlaa, Gugrontid, or Ojaveda?

"Ownable" rooms / flats / houses are not the only thing we miss:

There are 3 rooms in Kada-El's, which are also regularly used for roleplays. Unfortunately, there is nothing comparable for Th' Broken Door or for the Stonehead Tavern. No matter how small and simple such rooms may be, a kind of "hotel" is a must-have for touristic centers like towns. Especially because citizen are enforced to travel already by the quests (do I have to mention the touristical importance of Lorytia Starhammer for Akkaio?).

Isn't that the origin of bed boards? Where boards were placed between sleeping bodies?I remember some old movie- hmm maybe TOM JONES? that depicted that, and then of course the Clark Gable movie, oh what was it ... where he and the girl are hitchhiking... and they hang a sheet between them in the room... ?

That "sheet between beds" also happened with Hulk Hogan; and the squeaking bed behind that curtain was caused by biceps activities ... eh, push-ups with feet on bed.

I like this idea. With how hard it is to get a guildhouse, it would be nice to be able to rent rooms. There are a lot of houses in Hydlaa that do nothing but look pretty right now, and I'm sure Gug and Oja can accommodate a few as well. Seems desirable and practical to implement given the map as it stands.
