Planeshift being very unstable and taking very long times to load worlds.

I have:

XP home SP3
Athlon 2600+(1.84GHz)
2.2Gb Memory
Ati 9250 or something (256Mb) GPU
and sufficient interwebsconnection.

Has worked fine with previous versions of Planeshift.
But now when I downloaded the game for the first time in 2 years I noticed that this takes for ever to load worlds and this game sems to do it every other time I turn around the corner.
It also takes nice 10 to run the game and just wait to get any NPC's or other folks visible. I see the chat going on around me but nobody there.. After a while everything comes visible.
I have tried all kindsa things with settings, but no help..
And I have tried both servers also. The hack/slash server seem to work slightly better. Maybe.

Any ideas? How to speed up things.
...or is it just the fact that I need new PC?

i've been told the next update (0.5.5) is supposed to have a lot of fixes and optimizations that should speed things up as well as allow players to turn off other features that could ruin your game's performance (weather) so i'd hang in there for a bit longer, although the video card might be a bit on the low end nowadays.

Disadvantages:
- Athlon XP 2600+ = only one core (Multicore CPU is quite recommendable)
- ATI Radeon 9250 = below minimum recommendations, only partially compatible (Nvidia GeForce 6xxx works fine - but 8xxx/9xxx is a "minimum" in these days, in general)
- 2.2 GB RAM? Strange value. Surely not your "Physical Memory".

So you don't really have a "Gamer PC" anymore...

Very much aware of that, and I'm working on it. I think I never had a Gamer PC really, but maybe the next one will be.. Or at least it should be suitable for full HD video editing which is pretty much the same...
I really don't play much either. And when I do I play often for completely different reasons than others. I can truthfully say that Planeshift is the game I have played most during last 10 years. Also TORCS is near the top ten and some flight simulators.

I've been coming back to this game for years. Nice to hear and see that this Game keeps evolving..
