A /where function
« on: August 15, 2010, 01:48:56 am »
I think it would be good idea to have a /where function.  The command would basically give you which map a certain player is in, like hydlaaplaza, bdroad1, etc.  It would be basically there to give an idea of where a player is, without really needing to ask them directly.  I often have been in a point where I need such a function.  I think it could be really useful.

isn't the buddy list already enough stalking?
you see where your guildies are - ok, fair enough - but random strangers? just send a tell and they'll tell you if they want to

That and it's best not to allow players to know where others are when some plots/strategies might depend on this lack of knowledge.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.

I agree with Dracaeon, a /where function is good because, noobs don't have a clue what the name of the map that they are on they would just say; "I am out in the wilderness, I see a tree and a rock infront of me, can you help me so I am no longer lost"

Maybe for privacy reasons, possible being able to use it only if they are in a group with you and/or you ask them, like trading?
I am guessing this would work like /who other than:
1) you need a name (/where Vakachehk, not just /where and it shows everyone)
2) instead of rank and guild information being next to the name, it will just have the map name.
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

I still don't see a point. if he doesn't know where he is, tell him to use /pos

I would LOVE to have this feature - however i agree with people that say that there is no reason for this.

First off, yes, it is very much stalking

and secondly: if you are trying to find noobs, yes, you can just tell them to do /pos and to tell you what it is.

Personally, i would like this to be added, but proffesionally i think it wouldn't be a good feaure

I see the use for this feature, but if it is implemented, there needs to be a /where on and /where off toggle or something, so that those that don't wish to be found won't be.

The "Guild" window already shows the map where a guild member is. That should be enough. The rest is a matter of agreement in tells.

If someone is lost and needs help, they can use the coordinates and sector names in their own "/pos" report and tell someone who knows to use them.
