Game Time in the Information Window
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:44:43 pm »
It seems to me that a great deal of colour could be added by simply placing the game time (month day and year) in the Information Window. One would likely start seeing the game calendar being used more IC and get togethers and event announcements made in game time more. It would also help in the inevitable confusion for some people when using gmt. To counteract aging of characters, Settings could explain that the apples of the Hydlaa plaza are said to be golden apples of immortality. That would explain why there appears to be no perma death in PS as well. Perhaps until one ate an apple that perma death could be a random possibility when sent to the Death Realm. The first order of business when spawning a new alt would be a visit to the Tree of Life.  ;D

Settings may even request one of the Gods to come down to breath such magic in one of the apple trees of the Hydlaa plaza. That tree could produce golden fruit instead of the standard fare. Perhaps at a far more infrequent spawn.

I know where you got this idea from :D

hmmm...
How about having it like it is, other than you have 2 years in 1 RL year? What I am trying to form is a way to have the date and month, and maybe even year showing IG. Would make things good and interesting.

Still makes total sense.

In my first rpg world there were golden apples that gave immortality. Perhaps it is a similar theme? Not sure.

There seems to be a need to explain the revolving door of the Death Realm. There also needs to be a way that characters can get old IC and still not  fear natural death. Most importantly now that there is a calendar we should be using it.

Opps, misunderstood you. Yeah I was using that link to figure out the appearance of Talad on Jan 21, 2010 for a chronicle my character wrote about it and it seemed such a wonderful system that it seemed a shame it was not being used.

The DR isn't supposed to be a revolving door, that's just how it is generally treated. The problem is not a gap in settings but a disregard for it. People have every reason to fear natural death as technically, you can't go to the DR after that. You are permadead at that point. A calendar would have been nice, but making mechanics to justify non settings compliant RP doesn't make much sense. Oh well, maybe you can get the settings changed and then it doesn't matter what the old standard was. ::)

I don't remember anyone addressing dieing of old age, but AFAIK escaping the DR is supposed to give you your body back. Now even if dieing of old age lands you in the DR, escaping doesn't help you much. You will return shortly because your body will just fail again. I think I read somewhere there are plans for NPCs that live in the DR permanently. If that was official and is still in the plans, any character who was absent for very long can still claim to have been lost in the DR.

I'd rather leave it to the players to explain why their characters aren't dead after so much in-game time. Immortality apples sounds bananas. And that's just wrong.

As far as DR is concerned same thing. Leave the players to explain why they visit so many times. Let's not be too critical about it.

Having in-game day and year on the information window would totally rock.

It might be hard to implement though, as someone may have to change the time manually, having it automatically could make bugs that say crazzy dates

There is at present a ratio to real time and game time. That is how it turns from am to pm and each passing hour in the Information window. My main suggestion was to simply put the date, month and year in there as well. That should be able to be calculated on the fly. As to the other minor thoughts mentioned; and which seem to have struck a chord in the thread; they were mentioned for those that such things may matter and as suggestions only. They were not the main wish which is to have the full date, month and year appear in the Information window. How you all want to deal with having that existing information displayed is up to you. Venorel will simply start eating more apples following the advice her mother always told her, "An apple a day keeps old age away."

Hehe, that is not exactly how you had put it, but what matters is the present :D
