Windows 7 problems
« on: August 26, 2010, 05:58:44 am »
Hello there, thanks for taking the time to look at this topic!

I use windows 7, and have been trying to get planeshift to work itself out for nigh a week. Sometimes it will work for upwards of 30 minutes, but always, ALWAYS, it crashes. It will either say 'psclient.exe has stopped working' and then ill have to hit OK and it X's out of everything, or the game will just disappear, and the start window will pop up again.

Ive tried it on every graphic setting. its just as likely to work for a long time on lowest as it is on high.

Ive tried changing the compatibility mode, the ones avalible were windows 2008 service pack one (or something similar) windows vista, windows vista service pack 1 and 2. Nothing!

anything to reccomend to me? Is one service pack better and i just got unlucky? I do 'run as administrator' btw.

try disabling sound, setting background loading to off, disable the loader cache, set shader details to low or medium, anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering to 0x and particle details to medium
that's sorta the setup that's most likely to work

ok, so i can half-steadily get the thing to work on low detail. But as i found myself dead eventaully the death realm makes me INSTANTLY close the game window or get the client not working thing, so far on any setting. Ill try yours rlydontknow, I hope it works because i was just starting to learn the ropes.  X-/

i'm starting to think you might have one of those cheap laptops, they really arn't meant for games, esp if they have intel graphics cards, some of them work while others doesn't

Hi Phantomboy,

This might be the easiest way to get at least your hardware specifications:
My Toshiba laptop has a sticker on the bottom that tells the model. Find your sticker and
post here what it says (mine e.g. says "Satellite L300D"). We can google it then to get your
graphics card and processor type.

Best,
Minks

Other ways to find out what's in there:

- Control Panel / Device Manager (drivers details)
- AIDA32 (outdated) => Lavalys Everest (commercial)
- HWiNFO32 (recommendable Freeware)
- SiSoftware Sandra Lite (Trialware)

Satellite A505-S69803 SYSTEM UNIT

really hope i can get out of the death realm, I do not want to have to start over with my character. >.<

maybe i could update it? But in all the files ive got on it  when i search my computer there is no updater application, just a couple of word files.

note that there's no explicit "updater" application
just like for most games, the launcher (pslaunch) does the updating

Allright, so it seems your computer has an "Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T660", and an "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD"
as graphic chip with "128MB-1759MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory".

Intel graphics chips are not very good for running PlaneShift, but it is possible. Turn any fancy things in the graphic settings off
and the rest way down, like RlyDontknow already said. Once you have it working, you can carefully try turning things up again.

And you should make sure that you have the newest driver for your graphics card. I don't have Win7 either so I can't give
you a detailed instruction here, but maybe this site http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/ helps.

And when the Death Realm is unplayable for you, you can ask a Gamemaster to teleport you out until you got it fixed.
follow the  instructions here http://www.planeshift.it/irc.html to get to the game masters chat channel.

Best,
Minks

I went to your link for graphics, it says ive got one of these: Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family, and that it cannot update for me.

ill try and get the IRC thing to work to get myself out. If i can then ill just have to not die again.  X-/

Hardware-feature-wise, a GMA 4500 chipset is "quite okay". Hopefully the driver is too...

I just wanted to point out that the problem is likely with your 64-bit PS client rather than a PC. I run Windows 7 x64 and your client has exactly the same problems as the OP described, no matter what settings are used. The only difference is my specs are more than enough to run this game:

Intel Core i7 920 D0 @ 4.0 GHz (tested at default speeds too)
6GB of RAM
Radeon HD 5870
etc.

Everything is updated with the latest BIOS, firmware and drivers.

Moreover, there are corrupted textures right in the character creation screen, in the "podium" room. The wall "art" pieces look corrupted.
