race differences

How different should the races be? Should there be hard limitations?

This comes from the jumping thread. Should dwarves not be able to jump more than one meter? Should Enkidukai be able to jump from ground to roof tops? Can     Klyros fly?

And of course other differences like dwarves can not be wizards. Elves can\'t fight with axes and can\'t use technics (steam power etc).

The races differences should only influence abilities.
Dwarfes start with a \"jumping\" ability at 5 and can go up to 10 and an elefe starst with 7 and can go up to 15.

I think the race differences should indeed be a little more specific. like the jumping thing mentioned here, and others, but as logan said, i don\'t think it woud be a good idea to give to much benefitis to certain races. Like flying for instance: Flying ? that would be one major benefit, i think it is just to unbalanced like that, having races being able to fly, and others that can\'t.

Klyros is only able to fly for a  _very_ short time, and I think that you will be able to buy flying creatures.

They have a word for that: jumping :P

But maybe the wings could be used to reduce falling speed, and therefor they could fall from higher places.

Rules
Nightvision. Fly for short time . Breath underwater. Due to they nature they can\'t wear any kind of Heavy Armor.
ST +1 EN +1 AG +1 IN +1 WI +2 CH +2

Ok the jumping especially is another thread, but what about limits in general?

Should the dwarves be unable to be wizards? Or how could it be made harder for them? Just subtracting some skill points is not good in my eyes. I don\'t want to see several dwarf wizards, but i\'d like to hear legends from one dwarf, who mastered it some time ago. This way great stories can evolve and be written into the history of Planeshift. The great actions of players should form the history. A book about the history of Planeshift should not mirror the Changelog.

I have no problem with a dwarf being a wizard, healer whatever. I have played many rpgs, and in some of them, dwarfs made excellent casters.

All depends wether you kinda stick to an adnd kinda rpg or not. If everythings possible, everythings possible, and so are dwarven wizards. If you want to keep it realistic (in your fantasy universe) dwarven wizards would be a problem. All depends on what planeshift is.

Everything possible/sky\'s the limit ?
Keep it real ?

It\'s up to you to decide...

i actually agree with this for the same reason i started the falling damage thread \"realism\"
ELVES and ENKIDUKAI should be able do jump higher given that their races are traditionall ylight footed adn powerfull where as the KRAN and DWARWES should not jump as high given that the KRON are huge and heavy the DWARVES are short and stocky,

but this should also include items/armour equiped, weight of backpack, agility and strenght

Races will have many soft limits, this means it is hard for them to get beyond a certain point in a skill?say our dwarven wizard.

It might be that up to level 20 he is about average but after that it costs him a lot to increase?but perhaps at 50 he is back to where other races are. In other cases some special abilities will never be available to certain races, and for others they have them by default and in some cases can progress in them.

Not that it will be there but as a what if?

What if Elves where granted the ability at creation to increase bow speed?once they have this they could spend more in this area and increase it thus being able to at a really high point shoot two arrows for every one that any other race can do.

The one thing I want to avoid is making race irrelevant at high levels, but balancing that at low levels is difficult.

But as in all things we shall see.
