libpng14 no such file or directory
« on: October 09, 2010, 06:23:38 am »
Hello everybody, this post is to ask for your help, I'm trying to play PlaneShift but after installation it cant start, when I click the menu icon just apears a black window that closes immediatly not even a second after it appears.

So I try to start it from a console typing /opt/PlaneShift/psclient.bin and I get

/opt/PlaneShift/psclient.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I do ls /optPlaneShift/libs/  and I get

libCgGL.so          libcurl.so.4      libmng.so.1     libspeex.so.1
libCg.so            libfreetype.so.6  libogg.so.0     libssl.so.1.0.0
libcrypto.so.1.0.0  libjpeg.so.8      libpng14.so.14  libvorbisfile.so.3

try running just planeshift.
you ought to find it in /usr/bin
if you look at it in a text editor it looks like
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash

exec  /opt/PlaneShift/pslaunch "$@"
you are not really meant to run the binaries directly.

Don't worry about that wrong version message, I see it every time my client crashes. It appears someone hard-coded an error message that they shouldn't have.

that libpng14 ought to be in /opt/PlaneShift/libs/ though so I guess the above won't help.

Are you using the 64 bit client or the 32 bit one and what is your linux flavor?

I doubt I can be much help but someone else might find that information useful.

as you recognized - to run it from console you should run psclient, not psclient.bin directly.
psclient is a little shell script that'll add the lib dir to LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the client, so it can actually find the required libs.

as for the error you got afterwards: make sure you're trying to run it from a terminal that's been opened in an X environment. i.e. DISPLAY, etc. are set correctly.

make sure openal is configured correctly (check /etc/alsoftrc and ~/.alsoftrc)
openal uses pulseaudio in your case, but pulseaudio isn't configured correctly or at least not usable on your system. therefore it fails to open a sound stream and errors out.

I've found pulseaudio and python-openal debs in synaptic, should I install those packages ???

I've checked dependencies and conflicts and found that I need to uninstall liblame0 so I'm kind of lost here

best would be to find out which audio driver you're using (e.g. alsa? oss?)
once you found out, edit ~/.alsoftrc (if it doesn't exist, create it) and put the following line there:
drivers=alsa (or oss, ... instead of alsa respectively)

For those with the same problem ...

I am running PlaneShift In GNU/Debian Lenny (5.0.6) AMD64 with a gnome desktop
My Hardware is a
PCCHIPS A15G Mother Board
AMD Sempron processor
2GB RAM

Mother Board has an nVidia chipset integrated so I installed the lastest nVidia driver available

When I installed the PlaneShift bin there where no errors, the problem appeared when I tried to play the first time, there were no .alsoftrc file in my home directory, so I created it with just the following line

drivers=alsa

because I'm using alsa

Soon I'll get a new graphics card so I'll tell you what happens with the new card as soon as I get it

Thanks a lot

Hello everybody !!!

As I promised here I am again.

I got a new Graphics card and installed it so I discarded the last nVidia driver and installed a new one for the new card and that was all that was needed to continue playing now its time to readjust the setings ingame to see better graphics and FX

Thankyou and have a nice morning/day/night

no bother at all. But unfortunatelly it has been too long since i used windows, i think there should be an .alsoft file somwere in your folders anyway i think that you might find helpful to post tour problem in the windows specific forum so you may get a correct solution to your specific problem.

I hope you can solve this issue so we can see you around Yliakum soon.

Sat Oct  9 15:48:20 2010, Failed to locate Sound renderer!

That is your problem.
Probable solution:
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=37400.msg440331#msg440331

Download for openal: http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx
You want "oalinst". Then select OpenAL in pslaunch->settings->sound.

Good luck.  :)
