Boss monsters
« Reply #30 on: May 31, 2003, 08:53:20 am »
There could be boss monsters that are less common and much stronger than normal ones. They would look like normal monsters of their type, but have more hp/life, be stronger and smarter, and drop better items. Boss monsters would usually have some normal monsters of their type with them.

Web form for submitting monsters?
« Reply #33 on: May 31, 2003, 06:11:45 pm »
Could someone make a web form to submit monster ideas.  I think it would make this whole submission part easier for the devs.

Erm, Kuiper9000, I would like to know why spiders and mushrroms carry money around. I like your monster ideas as well, but the items part are kind of unrealistic. Of course that\'s my view, and my views are rather confused and unorganized...

Anyway, another idea:

Name: Winged Lulf

Physical Appearence: The winged Lulf looks like a wolf with wings. However, there are some major differences between the Lulf and the wolf. Those differences would be the wings, obviously, and the fact that the hind legs are replaced by three sharp talons. The Lulf also has smaller ears than a wolf. Similarities include the sense of smell, nose shape, fur, and front claws, as well as the social behavior. The wings are always as half as large as the length of hte body as well. The Lulf can fly up to a height of 5M+75 feet, where M equals the length of the Lulfs wings.

Attack Style: The Lulf is unpredictable, and are highly intellgent. Lulfs never hunt alone, rather, they hunt in packs of at least two. Packs of five are the most common. Lulfs will surround their quarry, and will attack with their front claws in order to slash and tear. The talons are to be used to pick up smaller quarry from the ground and in some cases, air. The fangs of a Lulf are formidable, and will be used alongside the claws.

The Lulf has a habit of warding off attacks with its wings. While it protects the main body, the wings are made of a thin leathery substance. When a wing is damaged severely enough, the Lulf will lose the ability to fly. However, the Lulf will attack here and there, as well as everywhere, and are fierce predators.

Like the wolf, the Lulf only attacks when hungry or needs provisions for its secret stocks. They shy away from creatures that carry things, but in some cases, will not attack certain creatures at all unless there is no choice but to do so. If a Lulf is seperated from its kind, then it is weakened severely and will die in a matter of days.

well when it says \"Items Dropped,\" it does say \"if you need an idea.\" Also its fantasy its not supposed to be that realistic.
My name is NOT pronounced, \"Kway-per,\" it\'s pronounced \"Kye-per.\"

Well, at least it did say \'If you need an idea,\' but wouldn\'t it be better if there were special items that were attributed to the type of creature? Just a suggestion. As for Planeshift being a fantasy game, well, sure it doesn\'t have to be realistic, but it has to make sense in some aspects. I\'ve never heard of a penguin that valued a ruby, but then again, I\'m thinking of a normal penquin. And yes, the penguin was completely random. And yes, this thread did need a bump to the top. I\'d rather not see a new thread similar to this, and I like this thraed as well. Many creative ideas here, though I\'m afraid I do not have a monster to tell about. :(

As for monsters carrying money, we have no control over what (or whom) they may ingest.   ;)

I think it would be unnatural to see \"monster dies, coins drop on ground\", or something similar.  Weapons or held items dropping to the ground upon death depend on a monster\'s intelligence and its ability to hold things for purposeful use.  I favor the idea of having to \"gut\" a monster to see if it swallowed anything useful.  (I do not think we should show the actual gutting procedure, however.)  Simply \"harvesting\" a set of remains for parts with possible alchemic use should turn up any odd treasures.  A lot of thought is going into the monster/death/society/drops ideology and theorems, so that our end result is balanced.  Keep those ideas coming!   :)

Why would a creature commit suicide?
« Reply #39 on: June 05, 2003, 08:24:09 pm »
I dunno, I don\'t really see why you should include monsters whose behaviors don\'t make sense even in a magical setting.  Unless this creature is a summoned monster with a geas it wouldn\'t kill itself.

Maybe some monsters could steal items that were dropped by (dead) players?

umm, I read something on the first page that made me blink twice...

Name: Trolloc (can you tell where this ones going?

dude, that\'s not even close to happening. if anyone came along and saw that in game, and reported it to robert jordan, the game would probably be shut down altogether, as lawyers swarmed over planeshifts by the thousands

it would have once been possible for them to create a similar monster, but now that that was posted, if they made it into the game, and above situation occurred, there would be proof that it was a ripoff, and deleting it won\'t help because it would only take one witness, which could be one of the dozens of people who visit here daily.

I\'ve got a good one..
Name: Thunder bugs.
Location: Thunder Cave
Difficulty: A few=Beginner. A swarm=Experienced average.
Appearance: It looks like a beetle the size of a boot. They have very large mandibles, enabling them to devour their foe easily. Each step it makes sends off a small electricity sound you can barely hear. Most of the time you only find one or two doing something like feasting on a small animal. Kill them quickly, or if one escapes into the thunder cave, alot more will come out. They have small sacs hidden inside their mandibles to conduct electricity, enabling them to shock their foes. They are easily the best beginner slayers if they get into swarms.
Physical attacks: Bite, shock bite.
Magical attacks: Lightning(A swarm of the bugs press their mandibles together, creating a huge lightning bolt, which flings right into you. High damage to beginners.)
Drops:
Thunder bug shell.(Bring 200 shells to a smithy to trade for thunder armor.)
