Stat reduction monsters.

These monsters adjust the statistic that the player has up or down.  I know that every monster I picked requires a modification to the database but oh well.  This kind of monster will reduce or increase any statistic that a character has.  It can also increase or reduce a statistic that a weapon or armor has.  In a way if you free up the way that monsters can do damage it will improve the way you do your game overall.  For instance if you created a pseudo macro language for monster damage to a target that included the ability to modify targets other then hit points that might help the ability to create interesting monsters.  One of the ways to implement these things into your system is to treat them like a spell.  Only instead of increasing statistics they decreased them.

Name : Shambling hag.
Background information: this monster travels in the group from three to seven.  Its effect is caused by its really ugly appearance.

Physical attack.  Moderate claw, claw only.
Magical attack.  Reduces strength by one after every physical attack.

Hit points armor class.  Moderate.

Stat increase monster.

I always wondered why in every game all monsters are basically the same.  Kill monster get experience go to the next level. Some of them will attack you on site some like you some don?t like not like you.  Then you get the loot.  This one is not like any of them.

Name: fluffy hopper.
Attacks: none
loot dropped: nothing
Hit points: one if any
movement rate: slightly slower than a character.

Effect if monsters is killed: you get back a half of your hit points back.  They must be killed with a physical blow to get effect i.e. no magic or missile weapons.

If you see one of these things you had better run fast or you?ll never catch it.   You might be able to use root or slow to get one but they have a high magic resistance.  They are also hard to track.  You either have to be very good at your skill or very lucky. They are very leery and do not travel around in groups.

Once you catch up to one you can either kill it or put it in a fluffy hopper cage.  A fluffy hopper cage can hold eight fluffy hoppers and can only be made by a blacksmith.  No NPC will sell one.  The fluffy hoppers will expire in the cage after 10 game days.  This includes time off-line.  Once in the cage two fluffy hoppers can be sacrificed at once for a full heel.

Name: Black Crystal Dragon
Skill level: Hard
Physical attacks: Claw Swipe, Pounce (if not directly infront of it\'s prey).
Magical attacks: Crystal Shards (sharp crystal shards are conjured and hurtled towards the player).
Appearance:

(Sketched version.)

http://hostmysig.com/data/moogie/46483.php
(Sorry but my colouring skills are horrible. This is just a general idea of what it should look like. Also, due to the link being .php I was unable to directly post the images.)

Other Info: Usually found underground and in caves. Crystal Dragons are solitary and are most commonly encounted defending items of valuable treasure. They absorb magic of black or dark elements, however have a weakness to Holy or white magic. They drop no loot (their guarded treasure should be enough to compensate the player for his effort).

[Edit: btw, both images are copywrite me, and yes I know they arn\'t all that great but be gentle :)]

NPC monster.

It looks like an NPC talks like an NPC has the same AI but is actually a monster.  A standard quest might be finding one of these and getting rid of it.

Name: shape shifter

Class weight: same as NPC or player character.

Physical Traits: same as NPC or player character.
Physical Attacks: weapon in hand.
Magical Attacks: can confuse and blind
Items Dropped: Magic weapon and cash.  If you track it back to its layer it has a hoard

Life/Hit Points: reasonably high.

This monster lives in cities.  It is always up to no good and use usually the source of a lot of murders.  It takes its time and picks its target to get the maximum money available.  Since its target?s are usually rich nobility there is quite often a handsome reward for killing one.  Since it can change its shape at will they are hard to locate without spells.  Once you find one they are hard to kill.  Accepting the quest is not for the fainthearted.  If not detected they will eventually travel to another city to wreak more havoc.  Generally player character?s are not attacked by this monster.  However if they are rich enough and have enough status they can be targeted.

Name: Scorpsus
Difficulty: advanced players only.
Appearance:
Huge desert scorpion.
Location: Random, mostly far away from desert towns. They live in underground sand pits. Above ground, the sand pit looks like a sand \"whirlpool\". Once defeated, enter it\'s sand pits to find a treasure.
Drops: Gold

I am horrible at creating names for monsters... If anyone finds a better name or a different name  for any of my monsters, then please let me know and I will (more than likely) change the name of my monsters. Not that hey are original, though.

Name: Haunting Spectre

Description: The Haunting Spectre looks like a ghostly apparation of a dead creature. It is usually invisible to the unaided eye, however, and has no physical form. It feeds upon the fears of people and creatures alike, driving them mad with terror, and are immune to any physical from of attack. They are immune to the magics of death and destruction, but as they are a sort of undead creature, they can be destroyed with magic of life and holiness. The Haunging Spectre may, however, if intruded upon, call for the aid of other undead things from another plane, and if the target creature is foolish enough to stray upon the land of the Spectres and Undead, (which in itself is unlikely, as they will probably run away from fright) can be slayed and join the ranks of the Undead.

The Haunting Spectre may be found guarding lost and ancient treasures, or among the armies of Undead and other creatures similar to that. Confusion and fear are its ways of subduing the enemy, and calling other Undead to their aid is another chief aspect of the Spectre. Ways of summoning include the Spectre going in a mad frenzy, circling around a black fire, but the rest of the summoning reitual is unknown, as none have yet been brave or foolish enough to watch it.

Another idea... Being bored gives me time to think.  8) By the way, should I revive the \'Ideas for Weapons and Items\' thread?

Name: salient Fish (or Shark, teke your pick)

Description: Fish usually, if not always, live in water. The Salient FIsh is no exception. Thsi fish looks like a shark with a horn. In fact, it is pretty much like a shark with a horn, other than the fact that the teeth are not quite so sharp, and it is slimmer from fin to fin, side to side, or something liek that. The horn is the main aspect of this fish/shark. Only the tip and a small area surrounding it is bony. The rest is pretty much muscle, with a layer of rough skin with miniscule pointy thorns to prevent others from biting the horn off.

When attacking, the shark usually just charges with its horn, and eats the prey with its teeth. If the pry is impaled upon the horn, it dips the horn and makes it curve and serves it to the waiting mouth. The powerful fins and tail are nice to have, too.

The Salient Fish/Shark is dangerous to swimmers, fish, and annoying creatures alike. The horn, however, has many uses, from being a weapon, to perhaps a potion/spell/magical thingy  ingredient...

Okay, I revived the thread. I think the worst that can happen is if people start listing uber thingies of Uberness and Weak Things That Are Insanely Weak.
Thansk for the compliment on my ideas. Now for another idea. Methinks that the Haunting Spectre is too much like Dementors in Harry Potter series...

Name: Cave Raven

Description: Basically a raven that has adapted to life in the caves, but not quite. These birds are rather large for a bird, but they have been tamed by a currently unknown race and have been used for mounts to get around in the cities of the unknown race. These ravens, like their counterparts outside of the caves, are highly intelligent birds, as well in the general style of appearence. However, the Raven differs in many ways, most notably three things. The sheer size of the Raven intimidates many, and the unknown race uses that to their advantage. As it has been brought up as a mount, this is another great difference. The third difference would be the ability to navigate through the dark as if it were day.

The Raven attacks using its sharp beak and talons. It approaches silently, except for the quiet flap of its wings, and when the unwary prey looks up, it is usually too late. The prey will either be eaten immediately, or frozen in their tracks by great  fear. When the Raven is being attacked, or attacking something that fights back, it will use its wings and a sharp caw in addition to the talons and beak. Usually this is in addition to the rider on its back, and the weapons the rider is wielding.

(Note: Someone, I don\'t care who, can create an idea for the \'unknown race\' mentioned. This is a different race than the ones of Yliakum. Did I spell that right? Anyway, someone can create a race that use these birds as mounts.)

Nightstalker
« Reply #86 on: July 18, 2003, 09:05:34 pm »
Nightstalker  Height:  10ft Shoulder:  6ft
Level:  advanced
Appearance:  Large mammal-like creature of Genus: Night stalker. This is one of many species that can exist.
Behavior:  The males (depicted) hunt alone and are very territorial and aggressive. If one is chasing you, and you can\'t defeat it, it would be a good idea to go find another because then they will fight w/ each other rather than you.
Attacks:  Claws pierce all but magically reinforced armor. Animal has some simple magic that enhances its senses and strength. When attacked, it will try to magically paralyze its adversary.

NOTE: Females are smaller, with more dull markings, are not as powerful and hunt in packs of about 3-7.
NOTE: I was going to add wings, but the paper wasn\'t big enough.
EDIT: added url:link to picture

Love all the ideas.

No one has thought of taking advantage of all the crystals though.

Name: Sentient Crystal

Class weight: Multiple levels in the medium to high range

Physical Traits: Floating crystal of Varing size Color of the crystal indicate its magic specialization

Physical Attacks: none

Magical Attacks: Different spells from the various Ways Red crystals have spells from the red way and so on and so forth.

Items Dropped (if you need an idea):
crystal shards. Can be used in making magical implements and charms or sold for money

Life/Hit Points:
depends on level but the higher level crystals have a lot

I know not well thought out yet but seems like a class of monster that would fit well in the setting.
