Forever-falling in purgatory

Hey there,

While hitting a rat in the head with my fist during the tutorial, I passed away, I assume because it's one seriously bad rat.

I saw a notice that I'd have to find my way out of the dead area and saw my toon appear.  I moved forward one step and began falling.  I fell for about 10 seconds then it showed a loading screen.  Then I fell for another 10 seconds.  Then another loading screen.  Then I fell again.  You can see where this is going.

I tried to shut down the game, but eventually had to shut it down via the task manager.

I haven't tried logging back in, as I suspect it's a bug and if it's not, I wanted to ask what I might have to do to make it out of the dead area, if it doesn't involve walking forward.  With the rats being as tough as they are, I imagine I'll be dying quite a bit once I run across a foe with opposable thumbs.

For future reference, I am supposed to walk around in purgatory to find my way out, correct?  Or is that what caused the problem?
