Metal working.
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:14:47 pm »
Hi,
I'm a newcomer to the world of planeshift. Playing for about a month, i'm trying to understand the mechanics of the game and think about how to update it.
Sorry for my lack of technical words in some cases, i'm french, so i rely on your good sense.

My first observation in my case, is that Metallurgy, so metal working take a great place in the roleplay of planeshift .
While approaching the firsts quest introducing metallurgy, Trasok or Harnquist ( or both...) asks us to change his leaver gloves...

From this point, i start to develop my idea...
Specialties are requiering different sort of tools in general. Metallurgy does not seems.
I think anyone who wants smelt metal must have a pair of leather gloves...
And something to take those smolten chunks...
So why don't whe have some tongs to manipulate the materials ?

Using some tongs and leather gloves, it seems to me doing metal working more realistic.

Can this be added "a simple way" by developpers ?

A manner to introduce the thing could be placed alongside the quest for leather gloves for harnquist. If you're interrested in Metallurgy, Harnquist could advise you to take another pair of gloves for yourself.
While paying his pair, Harnquist, could be grateful and encourage the player the way of the forge by forging himself the tongs for the player.
So the player could have a way to earn this precious tool near the start of the game without having to pay for it.
This Item could also be in sale by Harnquist, with is a toolmaker if i remember.

One more thing, as we can't open different windows of containers like furnace, stock, bag, there's something looking strange.
All the stuff needs to pass by the inventory. Once molden, some metals cannot be turned into ingot whithout a certain level, this forces the player to carry and/or stock molden metal. At start, these molden chunks must be boiling.
I don't know where the player keep his items, but when transporting molden metals, no wear needed...
So i think we need and intermediate state for this sort of things.
For the passage in the inventory, this is also another point.
If the programmers don't want multiple windows, for programming purpose or other, i think the furnace/stock (and didn't have tryed the forge and quench by now), could be associated, it's seems logic to me, into one interface/window.
I don't know the way to program, maybe a limitation between classes and windows...

For a better gui and integration, shortcuts could be implemented to tranfert materials and items in the inventory to different, opened windows, of containers.

Would be greet. Are my thought hailling you people ?
See you in the game.
