Game not starting

I installed the game and patched it, but when I click "Play", it just opens the black game screen for a second, then it vanishes and it opens the launcher again.

I have reinstalled the game once, no difference. I'm using Windows Vista, I'm running the install program & launcher as admin and I can't think what could be the reason. I have the 32 bit version.

From what I understand is pslaunch working. Did you try repair from there? Maybe it's some file that is corrupt.

I tried clicking "Repair" in pslaunch, but it says all files passed the check.

Ok, then something else is wrong. Do you know the command prompt (dos box) in Windows?
If you open it and navigate to the Planeshift folder, you can start psclient.exe from there and it will give a lot of output. That output would be helpful in getting an idea what the problem is.
If you don't know about the command prompt, best have a look into irc, so someone can assist you step by step ( http://planeshift.it/irc.html)

I made it start psclient.exe there, and again the black game screen opened for a second and shut. Didn't give any output, though.

How many of similar threads about similar issues did you already ignore?  

1) Hardware specs? (especially graphic chipset)
2) OpenAL installed? (oalinst.exe from Creative)
3) "%APPDATA%\PlaneShift\shadercache" deleted once?
4) Please quote your "errorlog.txt"
5) Execute "psclient.exe -console -verbose=-scf" and show us the last messages you can see after the crash

5) Done and same as in the quote in my last post. EDIT: Huh, did it second time and again, it flashed open and closed, but this time a second cmd window appeared for a fraction of a second and it had a lot of text. But it vanished before I had time to do anything.

1) Nvidia GeForce ####? ATI Radeon (HD) ####? intel GMA/HD ###? Even worse? ... Look in your "Device manager", or use a system analyzer (e.g. HWiNFO32).

But that doesn't seem to be the reason...

4) Aha, you don't seem to have a skin assigned ... why not?! Try to select the "elves" skin again in the PSLaunch, Settings, General.

5) The other command window was the goal ... but it vanished?! Well, let's hope 4) was the reason.

More or less. I tried the game some years ago but left, since I didn't really manage to get hang of things in there. I've been thinking of redownloading, but haven't really got to it until now. Maybe I'll do better this time.
