Graduation
« on: May 24, 2003, 08:29:52 pm »
Well after four long boring years I finally made it, much to the suprise of teachers and friends.  At 5:00 EST today I will be graduating and moving on to college.  You don\'t know how happy I am to finally be free of that place.  And to all those who are also graduating this year, Congrats.  :D

Congrats, enjoy college. It is an odd fun place. Also recognize the professors who want their words spouted back at them, and the ones that want original thought. It is a very hard and difficult lesson to learn?at least for me it was. If you want a good GPA do what the professor wants, and knowing their wants is sometimes hard. Dress down for some dress up for others, ask questions for some be quite and listen to others.

Invest in a good laptop or desktop and a good printer, don?t loan it and back everything up preferably on CDs as you might need to use the computer lab in a pinch.

Keep your syllabuses (or copy them to a computer file) as they should state how a professor wants their work presented. I had a professor who did not accept certain font types.
You might ask around the collage before purchasing a computer as to what OS and such they recommend, in most cases a win based system is most likely, but in some a mac is required depending on the major. Also they might use a certain standard for mobile data storage such as Zip disks.

Check if the school has any specials on software and purchase from there.

In your first 2 years get your general ed out of the way. I made the mistake of never finishing it and thus do not have a degree. Once you know what you want to know, it is hard to sit through the rest of the crap. Try to turn things in early, it allows you time to change the font :-).

Are you going away or staying home? If going away?it is really important to keep control of your stuff, don?t be bitchy about it?just don?t get taken advantage of.

And do not get pregnant?STDs are rampant in colleges and most are really bad. And remember as hard as it seems dating should be to escape from studies, the likelihood that you date your future life partner is slim, but that you might meet that person is high. So in short stay safe and be strong. Avoid the Jocks except the academic Jocks?depending on the school there is probably a big divide that you can see.

I would avoid the first few big parties and wait to know the scenes better. There is a tone more stupid advice I could give?but in short enjoy it, it could be the best time of your life, you should be surrounded by the most (in number) intelligent people you will ever be around. But don?t let the studies become the second reason for being there, or you may waste a great moment.

Wow...um thanks for the advice.  well I\'m majoring in Computer Science as I am planning on getting into the gaming industry as either a Designer or Programmer.  I will be getting a new comp although I hear the computer labs are supposed to be really nice.  (3 ghz, 1 gig ram, etc.)  The college is in town but I am staying in the dorms.  I don\'t think getting pregnant is a big concern for me.... And I am definently going to have a fun college life.  Heh tommorrow my hair turns a different color and by the time school starts I will have many new piercings.

Well the pregnant part means getting or getting someone else pregnant. And my advice was more general?sorry I really worded that oddly but I am not sure what is the best wording for it?ah it got the message across.
