PS crash before load on a mac
« on: December 20, 2010, 12:57:12 am »
Hi so I have Transmission and was able to download the torrent for the 10.4 for mac.  However when I click on the icon to start the game it doesn't even load before crashing.  The icon hops once and then nothing.  I've tried looking for some sort of game settings box to tweak but nothing I click on in the Planeshift file that I downloaded leads to anywhere other than a text-edit file or icon files.  Help please!

Did you move the Planeshift file folder from the dmg file that you downloaded and into your applications folder? The game will crash like this unless you run it from your applications folder. Also you will have to run the planeshiftlaunch app first to get the updates first or should get the updates first. Again you have th run the planeshiftlaunch app form the applications folder not the dmg file.

I have moved thefolder into the applications folder but it still won't open.  What is the launch app?  Is it the icon with the wrenches?  Because if so it doesn't work either even in the applications folder.

I go to the wrench icon and click on "show package contents," then "contents," then "MacOs," and "PSLaunch_static," and all I get is this:
Last login: Sun Dec 19 22:02:15 on ttyp1

ALSO whenever I open the updaterinfoxml file it opens "Big bang board games."  This happened to me with the old version a year or so ago as well and no one can explain it.  I have a mac.  Help!

Why are you browsing the contents of the pslaunch application? Have you tried using Open or double-click and that isn't working? Errors with applications are reported to the system logs and can be reviewed with /Applications/Utilities/Console. This release is working fine on my 10.5.8 machine. You should just try deleting what you have and reinstalling from scratch, log into IRC if you want live help. The other thing is, apparently, because you installed some software by "Big Bang Board Games" that mapped xml files to itself -- that would be an issue to take up with them, on their forums.

install X11

Okay - then can you please add that to the system requirements for OS X?  Because that's been your answer to the last 2 issues and "Install X11" is not part of the system requirements listed for the game.

well i didn't expect it to not be shipped as apple's macosx bears unix compliance (and I’ve found it pre installed). it will probably be changed with a self built library for the next build, thus not requiring X11 anymore.
anyway it's the same problem this and the one above not two instances of it.

I believe X11 is an optional instal when you upgrade your software. It might come pre-installed on a new mac but if you upgrade your OS then it is an optional install.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GUYHJH3U if you replace this psclient_static inside the package (Contents/Macos/) you shouldn't need X11
