Free MMORPGs and my Take on them
« on: May 27, 2003, 06:59:57 pm »
Ok in response to the last thread there are a bunch of free MMRPGs out there. I have given up on MUDs for the sole reason that even as addicting as some of the best ones might be (Merentha, and others...) I need graphics. Personally I am waiting for PLaneshift.

Tibia - www.tibia.org.  Its not that great people will tell you how good the game is and after you play it for a little bit you will think it rocks, but just give it some time. There are no kingdoms, The quests are impossible, NO wars, and Rabid PKers. The game has one and only one purpose training and leveling. But there is really nothing you can do with your level. The quests are impossible considering the game has been out for 7 years and only 25% of the quests have even been completed. It takes hours upon hours to get even one skill point after 50 skills, which makes for weeks of training to fight the stronger monsters. You can\'t even undertake the quests until about 2 months into the game. There really is no depth to the game theres no point or anything. Its ok if you wanna game to meet people or to be the highest level but don\'t expect to be able to do anything once you get that level.

Dransik - Decent game way to complicated to even get into. PLay tibia before this game.

Runescape - I liked this game for a little bit I got all the way up to lvl 30 but then I realized the same thing as with Tibia. Except in this game you cannot even PK which sucks. Theres nothing to really do. These games need to have more depth to them to be playable and fun because leveling and training stats gets boring to anyone after a few weeks.

Add whatever insight you wish...

Its funny that they make Rune Scape  the game that shall not be named. The game sucks. Trust me Planeshift makers you have nothing to worry about.

What\'s the use of a completely new thread when there is another mmorpg thread just below this one? I mean, that is just anawful waste of space. Besides, ever heard about the button called edit? You know, it\'s right next to the one called \"Reply\". Try clicking it. It allows you to edit your first post instead of creating a whole new one, which would be spam, as you actually reply to yourself. Or maybe you just like talking to yourself? Anywho, free mmorpgs are good, because you dont pay anything. If you don\'t like it, you don\'t have anything to say, as the games are free, which means you aren\'t paying and therefor your rights = ZERO. :)

Next please!

ok something I dont understand... you say that game Tibia has nothing to do but only 25% of the quest have ever been completed.. that they are impossible... blah blah blah..  well sounds like you just like to complain about uh FREE games...  now if a game has a lot of quest unfinished that means THERE is stuff to do..  and pvp most important aspect to any MMORPG that wants to survive the best system for handling PKs i believe was back in the begining of UO days..  oh wait i went off track...   anyway.. even if a game is addicting for a few MONTHS holy shit thats a few months of gaming you enjoyed and didnt have to pay for..  you wondered your char isnt getting anywhere after a few months.. I wont lie i have played a single mmorpg for 2-3 yrs straight..  and it was pay to play as well....  anyway.. i know your thinking whats my point...    well its simple if someone took the time to develop a game, rewrite some code or what ever,  then spends the money to build a pc or use there normal pc to host it on so you can play it for FREE I dont think you should complain about a damn thing..  you didnt pay for it.. you didnt waste your time(since you did actually enjoy it and no one forced you to play a FREE game). you wanna complain you...  uh never mind.. i could be really harsh but ill leave it at that..

Is it just my imagination or is gronomist a slight troller... I mean, I\'ve seen several negative posts by this guy...
we are the music-makers, we are the dreamers of dreams - Gene Wilder as willy wonka

Johnny Depp\'s a poser to the throne. No one will ever play the part as well as Gene Wilder

You will not be dissapointed, just make a few friends and hang out together, and i am very angry at how people are judging by the way the game looks, come on! its a JAVA game! not a .exe kinda game, so gimme a break! and, if you really want more to do in rune scape, then just join members, loads of quests, and new skills...and new things to look to...and, if you don\'t like it, just tell JaGeX what the problem is, and they will eventually get around to it!...

MUD\'s are IMO a gazillion times better than Runescape... They are not graphical so that isn\'t what bugs me... the entirety is...

the game isnt that bad, i played members with my friends for awhile, got somewhat addicted to the damn thing, played to about lvl 25 and then just left. I think my account is still there nd Im probably still paying for it but whatever. Ofcourse almost any serious game such as PlaneShift will absolutely pwn Run Escape :D. I mean I opened up PlaneShift\'s menu and I was in awe with how great it was all setup and the background music. Now I just can\'t wait for my new computer to get here, should be here by wednesday, then I might be able to actually get into the game  :D

You have plenty of valid points here, but I think you\'re being a little harsh. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Darkanan was expressing his. It sounded like he was basically analysing and reviewing the game based on his experiences- not complaining or putting it down without specific reasons.

RS can be a very fun thing- all you need is a good set os arrows and a crowded dark wizard circle thingy. I was addicted to that game for over 6 months. RS can be extremely addictive.
