Falx and Kukri
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:01:09 pm »
It would be great if it was posible to use a falx and kukri as weapon in PS.The wikilink: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falx and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kukri
Reasons to introduce it to the game:
They really existed.
The more weapons PS has the more realistic it is.
They are badass.
We can intorduce two types of the falx a short one as swords weapon and a long-handled vesion as a pole-arm.

What about a Guan Dao? That is a seriously badass polearm too. Another nasty polearm alternative is the partisan. I'd love to be able to kick butt with a double ended Guan Dao. (Without sufficient skills a weapon like that would be incredibly  :whistling:dangerous to the wielder of course)

What about the gladius, sica, sai, falcata, rapier, pugio, katana, main gauche, talon, sword-breaker, zanbatō, etc.? I'd like to see each and every sword implemented in PlaneShift, with the excuse being each race had its own assortment of weapons. Still, I'm sure the developers already have some type of plan about what type of weapons they are implementing. When making a wish, I think you should avoid having "badass" as the only reason for implementing. Functionality, seems to me, is what Developers are currently searching for in ideas.

Did you see the falchion weapon? It's pretty similar to the ones you mention. Not identical I know.

My favorite is still the swiftblood blade... it has been in materials.zip for quite a while. With its long, curved blade, it resembles Catlemurs wish more than the falchion does.

Guns exist as well and we won't implement them. And PS would actually benefit from having weapons that never existed, like some japanese cartoons have. About the quantity of weapons, though I agree, it's not really a new functionality. It's something the developers have been doing over time and are already aware of.

Falchions are curved the other way. Still, they're exotic as well and people could settle with them for now.  And I've never seen a swiftblood blade.

I had a weird idea for a weapon that had two uses; one for stabbing, and one for bashing. One side has a mace, the other has a sword. Each were on the end of a long steel cylinder. Sides varying, etc. The cylinder wasn't to big around, just enough to keep functionality. The middle had a leather handle. ( Mind you, the ' weapons ' on the end, weren't full weapons. Just small versions with no handle on the cylinder. )

... Glad I got that off of my chest.

Don't you feel a whole lot better now? I'd need to see a drawing. Because the idea I currently got is that it's a stick with a mace on an end an a blade on the other... And I think I've seen something like it somewhere.

Can you draw them? That could be yet another weapon.

I hope it is okay to paste a collage of icons taken from materials.zip.
And I hope things are not going off topic from Catlemurs wish.

Poignard,
Swiftblood Blade
and Falchion
(symbols are
already in the
clients art)
with a suggestion for a
scythe type weapon.

About drawings of big funny weapons ...  see below.

The scythe like weapon is called a halberd.

Here are some ideas:

The Windmill. A special very rare weapon, that is like an axe, only there's a circular blade that is kinda dented and that can rotate. If someone uses The Windmill the cirular blade would start to spin due to the aerodynamics of it. It would deal massive damage etc....

Throwing knives, anyone?

And how about implementing poisons, you could dip weapons in them and then deal poison damage...

i've thought that throwing knives and shuriken could be implemented as ranged weapons. did somebody say boomerang?
all blessings to the assembled devotees.
