Windows Vista - DEP errors when launching
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:37:41 pm »
I am experiencing the same issues as some others that I have seen in the forums.
OS is Windows Vista - When I try to launch the psclient.exe (no matter how I try to mix it up) I always get the same Data Execution Prevention error.
I have tried all the reccomendations found in here and the problem is still the same!  >:(

I am very interested in playing this game as it looks really cool. Was really happy about the enforced rpg!! This issue is making me a little sad! :'(

Please!! If anyone can, find the cause of this problem! I have been going through all system menus and trying every possible thing I can think of!

Just thought I should post new to get a fresh take on the whole deal for everyone.

Suggest you post both PC and OS specs so people smarter than me can help.

Just a thought, have you tried running PS as Administrator?

I did try to run as admin. Same error  :surrender:

OS - Windows Vista   Home Premium
Gateway T-1625
CPU - AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Technology TL-60 Dual 2.0 GHz
32 bit
1662 MB RAM (1.6 GHz?)
Graphics - ATI Radeon X1270

I think that's all, couldn't find more info on the OS. Pretty sure my RAM is sufficient to at least open the game? Plenty of hard drive space. The Video card I think is up to par too? I dunno

Oh, I did download the 32 bit version of software so I know that's not the problem.

Have updated drivers for VGA and Chipset, still no luck.
Uniinstalled PS - Deleted Installer - Redownloaded 32bit Installer (Direct Mirror) Reinstalled - Allowed PSLaunch and PSClient in firewall- Run as Admin - no success.
Turned off firewall- Run as Admin- no success. Can't execute PSLaunch (Updater) or PS Client - Data Execution Prevention still blocks, try to turn it off -Required to Run-  >:(

did you try turning off DEP

Right click on My Computer
Click on Properties
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Settings button in the Performance section
Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab

This is for XP, for Vista or 7 open a command prompt with admin rights and type:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

reboot your machine and try again :)

if you want to check your DEP status, open a command prompt and type
wmic OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_SupportPolicy

if you get a 0 as a reply it's turned off, 1 is on, 2 is on for services specified and 3 of off for services specified.

Let me know how it turns out :)

I did what you said and the command prompt says that DEP is turned off. Now however, the client crashes for no specified reason

If you open eventviewer ( windows key + r and then type eventvwr.msc ) do you see any events after planeshift crashed ?

if so can you post them :)
