Graphics Problem on iMac OS X 10.6.8
« on: June 24, 2011, 08:04:20 pm »
Hello there,

So I've been very very very eager to play Planeshift, especially once I heard that it was apparently compatible with macs. I match all the system requirements, and I read the "ReadbeforeOSX" document with for certain fixes, but for some reason the graphics on the Client are too oddly messed up enough, that its actually preventing me from playing the game (AKA parts of the screen are pixalated, but only in certain areas). I also tried re-installing from scratch and doing the repair when something goes wrong. The only other thing to mention, when I download and open the LaunchClient it says the game has an update, and when it updates, everything goes so smoothly until near the end, and it "quits unexpectedly", when I re-open the client it doesnt offer for the update, so I hit repair and it says everything passes the test, yet still hasnt resolved anything..

Everything seems to work fine when I load everything, its when I go to make my character, you cannot even see the head area, for half bottom of the platform below the feet (I will be providing a screenshot, incase it may help resolve this).

I will provide my OS info, I just really want to play the game! I actually went out and bought Snow Leopard, in hopes that it would update my drivers enough to play, but even still... I'm also running in 64bit mode, in attempt to help the graphics but to no prevail.

Hopefully Sarva will be along soon and might be able to tell you something... She's got a Mac and can usually suggest something helpful.  There's a fair few of us Mac users, but I'm running the 10.6.7 snowleopard.  I haven't moved up to try the next one yet.  Usually a repair will work, as the update rarely works well for the Macs.

The only thing I can suggest is delete it and redownload.  Sometimes I have to wipe and start again if it gets a glitch like that.  [I've had to do that twice on some of the updates in the year+ i've been playing.]
Also, it's more credible to others if you grow in power slowly over time.  First kill rats, then noobs, then klyros, and eventually work your way up to more powerful creatures ~ Miomai

On my desktop I have the same issue. it is suppose to be a problem with one of the art files. Since I know what all the character races look like I haven't tried to fix it and it doesn't affect game play. My mac laptop doesn't have the problemProbably completely deleting the game, both the game folder and the Planeshift folder at user/library/application support/planeshift and then reinstalling will hopefully clear up the problem.
