Lake Mushrooms? Seriously?
« on: July 06, 2011, 03:45:34 am »
Ok, I have to be missing some really really obvious clue with this quest.  Please tell me that in a game that has been around this long, and offers this quest so early in the game that there is some humongous hint I am just completely missing for this quest.  All I have gotten is the quest giver saying I want lake mushrooms.  For a day I tried to find more information about where actual lakes are.  I found one myself and got hints to a few more from players, but no mushrooms.  Then I actually got a hint about looking near a specific place for them.  I have been looking for literally 2 real life days and have found nothing.  I consider myself a patient person, but this is definitely not fun.  Can anyone help?  ( I tried to keep it spoiler free)

Go to the bronze doors fortress, go up inside those cliffside mountains till you find a lake.

It is more of a pond, really, but I've noticed there are some near other bodies of water too. You might want to set item labels on in the in game options so that they are easier to see. You probably don't want to keep them on generally though.

If you didn't find all lakes yourself, did you try herbal tours? Did you ask city herbalists?

One hint is to not focus only on one quests until it is done. I take on a number then you will find by travelling between hydlaa and the bronze doors (for example) that you can finish off a number of quests on one visit. Otherwise, doing one quest at a time, you would be running back and forth across the map wearing out countless pairs of boots (figuratively speaking).

Are you guys talking about going past the fortress?  I thought I looked all through there and didn't see any other passages.  I have walked the wall of the entire "zone".  I have been all over both cliffside trails leading up to the fortress.  I couldn't find a way into the bottom of the ravine, so I am guessing they are not there.  I have climbed up everything that lets me up it.  I got really excited when I saw the thoklas or whatever they are called.  The Xiosia holy animal, but when I got close I realized they were not mushrooms. :/

I am not sure what you mean by "Herbalist."  Is that reference to a player or an NPC?  If NPC I have no idea where to find one.  Most NPCs are not very well identified.  There are many that appear to be a vendor for specific items that are actually not.  Like Jeyarp or however he spells his name.  Has a nice little tent with some leather out but doesn't have much to say.

Information seems to be a tough commodity in this world.  I still have no clue how magic works.  I did everything in the tutorial.  I read everything in the library.  I started talking to the Lake Mushroom NPC in hopes of learning something, but all I have really gotten is some Xiosia and Seed faction.  I have tried playing with the glyphs and have burned about 3/4 of my lifebar multiple times, but nothing seems to do anything.

I really like the RP community and the exploration factor.  This game has some of the magic from when games like Everquest and Asheron's Call first started.  I like that you can run into someone in the middle of nowhere and have a conversation about their armor or weapon without hearing "STFU noob!"

Thanks for the replies, any info is help at this point. :)

By Herbalists I mean players. Some even sell herbal compendiums with details where to find various plants.

The Knowledge Seekers guild offers an in game IC university where you can learn things like the basics of magic. you might try talking to one of the guild member, but remember IC you don't see the knowledge seekers tag over their heads so if you don't see something in the character desc saying they wear something that identifies them as a member of the knowledge seekers then.

The Explorers guild runs tours of the region. Their booth is near Harnquit's show next to the road that leads to the arena. The book at the booth should give more Info about the times the Tours are offered.

you could try hiring a guide, although I'm guessing many players would show you for free, where different places around the region is. Of course if you hire one of the thief types you might end up getting in a RP robbery.

Remember this is really a social game and not an individual quest fest. It works much easier if you get to know people in game and ask the people you meet for information and help. Just remember to do so in an in character manner. Then return the favor after you know your way around and help new people when you can.

Find a guild mate, easiest wealth of information. You can always leave if you find the guild isnt to your liking.

In case no one has pm'd you, going around the perimeter of the zone should work, I'm not sure why it didn't...think about as you approach the Bronze Doors Fortress...you see the path up to the fortress ahead of you, and there is a lake to your left...instead of going up to the fortress itself, look out over the lake on your left...you should see a ledge there, carved into the cliff, with a short path leading up to the ledge...just pass through the lake, there will be riverlings lounging around, and you should see the path.  There are guards there, in a small lookout hut, you must keep climbing up, and enter into the old mining tunnel.  It's lovely and quiet up there.  Enter the tunnel and you will see nice creatures to fight or admire, the Velnishi, and at some point a narrow path to the left, which leads you to the lake you are looking for.  And there are a couple of tiny lake mushrooms on the banks of the lake.

Good luck to you, and I totally agree that it is hard finding information...sometimes, especially when it is later at night (GMT -7 1 a.m. whatever that is for you) you can enter the gossip channel and find very sweet helpful people there.  Ask your question, and while some people may bark at you about "don't ask here!!  spoilers not allowed!!" you can safely ignore them, since asking questions is totally legal, and people come out of the woodwork to /tell you the information you need.  It's really helpful when you are frustrated, and super kind too.  I'm sure many newbs have stayed from helpful players, and many have left from rude players.  But there are more sweet ones than rude ones.

Anyway good luck really, I'm not playing atm from rl business or I would offer to take you right to the spot.

Asking in game where to find Lake Mushrooms is perfectly legal, as it is a kind of information your character would ask ("in-character knowledge").

Asking the same outside the game is not so welcome instead.

I meant for Laedlin to ask in the gossip channel, which is not IC, but is legal.  If there are few people on, then asking people IC is not so easy.

And I respectfully disagree with you LigH, I'm happy to see this question on the forum, i.e. outside of the game.  Usually people would just quit playing instead of coming here to ask again.  I think it's great, shows initiative :D and I welcome it.

I don't discourage people from asking questions in the forum.

I just point out that there are rules to avoid in-game information being published outside the game.

That is one part of learning to tell apart "in character" from "out of character", an important roleplaying basis.

Jenideandre you might want to read the game policy re spoilers and walkthroughs http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=31960.msg367027#msg367027. The posting of spoilers in the forums and talking about them in gossip are illegal per the policy so no you really can't ignore the people who are saying no spoilers in the gossip channel.

Sarva, I quite intentionally said that asking for information in the gossip channel is perfectly ok, and that people will /tell the information.

It is definitely appropriate to ignore players who bark at you for asking the question.  Questions are allowed, as are the /tells.

That's all I meant.  Ciao, I'm jumping off the thread now...
