New idea for weapons
« on: May 30, 2003, 12:00:28 pm »
Id could be fun to have a few extra quests (for every character different) to get an \"in everquest called\" EPIC weapon.

when you complete the quest you get a weapon that can only be wielded by the class you made your character with.

a weapon with a special bonus that cranks up the ability\'s most important to the class

>EXAMPLE<

could be fun if it were to be a \"multiple quest\" thing that you get a item on completing one quest and then trade 3 items with an NPC to get the \"EPIC\"

The main issue with ?epic? weapons is they are not so epic when there are better weapons for you after 2 months.

To keep them ?epic? would require our saying ?this is as good as it gets? and that is counter to longevity of a game.

But we will have huge and complex quests that will yield great and powerful artifacts?what they are and how they are used will be different, how many there are will also be subject to the whims of the Devs at the time?it is possible though people will hate us that we make a artifact similar to the ?Holy Grail of swords? and that there is only one?many will start the quest, many will get close to getting it?but only one getting.

In general that would be very harsh specially after people spent hundreds of hours playing and browsing sites that might have clues?but it is an idea.

Over all we have many cool and semi innovative ideas for how to make weapons and other items cool, and worth spending time to get?or worth taking the chance that you might get it.

But we won?t have any end all be all weapons or artifacts.

ok to solve this problem with weapons loosing thier worth all you do is make it so that each weapon has a tie to it, like: silver sword is better at killing legolas, the werewolf bird of yliklium\'s swamps. no other weapons really do the job as good so it would be in players best to keep that weapon, like in real life,  you get a pistol, you don\'t throw away or stop using your knife. this would let players keep there weapon and allow devs to introduce new weapons without devalueing the older weapons

I have always like the idea of specialty weapons and armor.  I was planning out a game, and here is what I did for specialty.  Also, you can substitute weapons for armor, magical devices, almost anything.

First, you must craft the base weapon.  You gather special ingredients, (either bought or quest items), take it to a specific remote place, combine the items to make the weapon.

Next, you proceed to do \'rituals\' that modify the weapon.  If you \'bind\' an item to you, it holds any \'magical\' or holy properties only when you wield it.  If you advance the bind to the next rank, you can summon the weapon after it drops after death.  There should be many rituals that any item can do.  If you do ice rituals, you cannot do any other element rituals.  If you do this, you keep a relatively small amount of weapons around, and they \'grow\' with you.  Maybe one ritual you can give your weapon intelligence, (says things on critical hits, etc).   Another one may imbue it with a spell that can be used every 6 hours.  There is a billion options out there.

Now if you had an ice weapon, but you wanted a poison weapon, you would have to craft a new weapon.  This means you would have a lot of different weapons either on your person or in your house.

Another good thing is that people wont be camping for a new weapon non-stop.  If they can aquire needed materials from multiple places, (obsidian from the desert, silver from the mines in the north), people will be spread out enough where camping wouldnt be an issue.

I really hope devs are reading this.  I think these are some great ideas.  Please comment on this everyone.  I would like to hear your opinion.

Thanks!

This isnt for just any weapons, these are for the big weapons.  I know I am not like most players, but I want to EARN my weapon, armor, etc.  If I took the time to craft something unique, I would be very proud.  Maybe Im just a dreamer, but thats how all ideas begin.
