Trouble Running Game
« on: May 30, 2003, 04:18:43 pm »
Ok, I\'m sorry if this has been covered in a previous thread but I don\'t really have the time at the moment to check them :)

Anyways, no matter what settings I use for the game it takes forever to load when it says \"Initializing World\"

When I check my Task manager it even says its not responding.

It does usually load, eventually, but it is Choppy As Hell! No matter how I have it set up, its like 1 frame per 5 seconds at best...

The game looks great and others dont seem to have the same trouble moving around...

My computer isn\'t low end or anything either, so if anyone has a suggestion... I\'d appreciate it. Thanks.

Same thing here

I get the same thing as well.  I have tried everything from lowering the settings all the way down in both resolution and color depth to changing the compatability mode of the way XP emulates the program.  I even nixed the sound and music.

This is the machine that i used to play Everquest on.  It ran as smooth as baby ass.  When I get in Planeshift, however, I cannot even make a full turn without the GUI freezing and then jerking.  The only thing that is smooth (relatively) is the shouting that all the other chars are doing.  Everyone that I have talked to ingame, or whose comments I have read here, that are not having this problem are running superhorse workstations or linux boxes (that my be supoerhorses as well).

Here is my configuration.  Not the best, but still able to play any other game that I want to flawlessly.

900MHz AMD Duron
512 MB RAM
Windows XP Pro
Cable Connection
Voodoo Card with 16 MB onboard

When I log into the game and start to lag I bring up the task manager and the psclient is taking up from 86 to 97 percent of my CPU resources.  This happens if I leave all of the processes running or kill all the ones that are not needed for system maintenance and network connectivity.  I am getting ready to upgrade to a 1.3 GHz processor with a frontline bus of 266MHz, but that is to get ready for World of Warcraft when it comes out and in case I decide to play EQ2.  This game should not be anywhere as resource intensive as those two.

If you are having the same things with your machine could you make sure that you post your system configuration with the things that you are experiencing so that it can help the dev people out.

Thanks.

I\'ll post my specs too, if it helps anything.

950mhz AMD Duron
512mb RAM
Windows 2000 Professional
56k Modem
Radeon 7000, 64mb
Sound Blaster Audigy(In case its a sound issue somehow.)

Hope someone can figure this out, cause I\'m really looking forward to actually being able to play. ^^

Well, according to the FAQ thread I read above it can take up to 2 hours or so to first initalize.

Quote
1. My game locks up when I connect. It just says \"Initializing world\" but Windows says it is not responding!

This is ok. On some machines, Planeshift believes it needs to recalculate the lighting, which can take up to 2 hours the first time you run. If you let it run to completion, it will load quickly every time after that.

My advice is to make the settings as low as possible, then try and connect and wait at least two hours before doing anything. I remember my first connect took awhile (not 2 hours though).

Best of luck
