problems while runin Linux binaries
« on: June 01, 2003, 04:39:59 pm »
hi, the game seems to be very nice, but i cant get it to work.
these are the errors i got:

[ssobeht@unit0 planeshift]$ psclient-bin -verbose
no CEL environment variable set!
Warning: Failed to load `gl3d\'; reason(s):
DLERROR (gl3d): libopengl32.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Warning: Failed to load `gl3d\'; reason(s):
DLERROR (gl3d): libopengl32.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl\'
aws-debug: Couldn\'t find iGraphics2D plugin!!
psclient: No 3d driver (iGraphics3D) plugin!

i also tried to run it in software mode:

[ssobeht@unit0 planeshift]$ psclient-bin -verbose --video=software
no CEL environment variable set!
Using alternative 3D driver: crystalspace.graphics3d.software
Warning: Failed to load `xwin\'; reason(s):
DLERROR (xwin): libXxf86vm.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Warning: Failed to load `xwin\'; reason(s):
DLERROR (xwin): libXxf86vm.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
aws-debug: Couldn\'t find iGraphics2D plugin!!
Segmentation fault
[ssobeht@unit0 planeshift]$

i tried to find any rpm with those libraries at rpmfind.org, and i found that libXxf86vm.so.1 is contained in the shared libraries rpm of xfree 4.1 and libopengl32.so is in an old version of wine.
i didnt tried to install them.

i\'ve got mandrake 9.1 running in an AMD k7 700mhz, 256 ram, with a ati radeon 9000 128mb.

how can i solve this?

@ssobeht: Have you read the linux related FAQs? This problem sounds very familiar to me, but unfortunately I don\'t have an exact link to a thread. Use the search function to find an answer, I\'m pretty sure it is already discussed somewhere in this forum.

Have you set all enviraonment variables (CRYSTAL and CEL) correctly? And does the user have all necessary permissions?

This works to me:

I make a copy of libGL.so, that comes with my NVIDIA driver (official driver) and the change the name to: libonpengl32.so.

Now i can star the game in opengl mode.

Sorry, I can\'t make this game working. It looks very good, but all I tried was useless.
I don\'t want to use the windows version
I\'ve downloaded the binaries provided.
I couldn\'t find any \"howto\" with the archive
I went on this forum and read many things related to the same problem I have (no library found etc.)
I made the links to the opengl libraries, I made the exports etc.
I\'ve d/l the full crystal space sources, compiled them correctly.

I realised after  \" solving \" all the previous errors I still get news, like this  libXxf86vm.so.1 missing.
The how to here looked good anyway :

I tried to get all rpm related to this, but after 7 or 8 servers refusing my connection or being down, I GAVE UP ! Some xshared rpm could be usefull, but they really look obsolete, and then impossible to find.

Unfortunately if it\'s not easier to install, people won\'t be much interested on this game. It\'s a pity. I understand we can\'t force you to make the game easier to install, and it\'s already really kind to make it for free, but it\'s very discouraging not to be able to install it.

Exact same problem I posted about in the stickied thread.  I wonder if whoever released the Linux binaries tested them.

just to tell the installer has improved much since my 1st post, so now it seems to be very easy to install PlaneShift on linux :)

Even the 64bits plateforms are supported.
