GeForce 4 is too old, does not support OpenGL 2.0; regarding GeForce, a minimum of generation 6 would be required, generation 8/9 is recommendable.

Ahm, well, maybe not exact enough ...
TechARP Desktop GPU comparison guide
— Nvidia:
Details
/
Features
The chipset (NV25) has only support for hardware accellerated functions matching the era of DirectX 8 or OpenGL 1.4 (Vertex Shader 1.1, Pixel Shader 1.3).
If a software driver claims to be OpenGL 2.0 / DirectX 9 compatible, it would have to emulate or ignore new features which the chipset (NV2x) is unable to handle natively. Technically, the shading features of a GeForce FX 5xxx (NV3x chipset) would be the absolute minimum required to run PlaneShift 0.5.x correctly; but practically, a GeForce 6xxx (NV4x) is a recommended minimum. I've tried a PC with a GeForce FX 5200: It looks okay, but you have a slideshow rather than fluid motion.

The transparent heightmap floor is another known issue for GeForce FX cards; it obviously doesn't support a specific OpenGL extension as expected. This is partially a problem with drivers, partially with their support by CrystalSpace as 3D engine. But CrystalSpace developers are not very much interested in supporting "ancient hardware" for rather modern game projects ...
