Navagating cameras
« on: June 03, 2003, 11:34:42 pm »
One idea I had whilst strolling through your beautiful land... but in more welcoming areas and villages.. would it be possible to have a stationary camera view, rather than following your player..  it would have to be above and follows your player around.. remembering you need to see all the NPC\'s.. it doesn\'t mean someone could be lurking behined some barrels out of shot! sneeky!

It\'s just being stuck behined your player all the time gets.. restricting? I\'m not sure.. it is a wonderful start to an online RPG.. and I wish you guys the best of luck getting all the features and community you hope for!

right.. I think the words I was trying to say are..

This game is abit slow at the moment.. slow paced.. talking and finding your way round.. when you want to chat you have to remember to click on the chatbox first and then off to mouselook around etc.. it takes awhile to get used to this, but again I think this is amazing... not long ago I was looking at the crystal space/genesis3d/blender engines to see what I could do in them.. and here I find a game which could explode in a big way!

You\'re gonna get alot of crits or I wants... but it\'s you guys who have to put this from pen/screen to paper/source code!!

Ease of use.. so far I don\'t like the chat box being in my view all the time... if it could be fixed at the bottom/top or something.. or can be minimis(z)ed so I can see afew lines at a time of chat... hmm.. thing is sometimes alot of chat messages can come through..

I\'m sure you\'ll figure it out.. as you want a decent result out of this aswell..

well.. thank you for the new experience :)

Another good idea for camera effects is to see through a familiar/pets eyes.  There was talk of temporary possession of a pet where a player could contol it.   That would make for some great ways to get screenshots of the game.  Just a thought.

Yeah, the camera is already quite something, but i would like to see an isometric 3D view from high above. (Good for ooverview, and very nice to look at the world sometimes...) Just pressing a key, cycling through camera mode presets. This shouldn\'t be too hard to implement.

Dont you think we should worry about some map functionality before camera control. ;)

um.... no, definately no :D
Id say camera view is a lot more important, especially as a top down view and lots of screenies will equal a detailed map. :D

Point taken.  Anyone think there should be a spell like \"Wizard\'s Eye\"?   Cast it, control a 1st person remote camera until duration elapses.

Could make scouting very interesting.
