Updater Closes Every Time
« on: May 16, 2012, 09:13:51 pm »
Hi there! I've just downloaded the game, and tried 3 times now to update, but every time it gets to the second .5.9 update and crashes! It doesn't give any error message besides the generic "Has encountered a problem and needs to close" so I don't really know what the problem is :(
If anyone can help with this, that'd be great, and I'm willing to test out things to see if I can provide more information :)
Hopefully we can solve it quick and I can start playing ^-^

What file did you download and where?
What is your operating system?
Are there any error log files in the file directory?

I'm running Windows XP 32-bit, I downloaded the installer from the main site.
In the error log I have:
Wed May 16 13:51:43 2012, <..\..\src\common\paws\pawsimagedrawable.cpp:69 pawsImageDrawable::PreparePixmap SEVERE>

The last one repeats several times.

By the way, very impressed with the quick response! Just wish I'd still been here x3

Bah. Remind me to stop asking fo errorlog.txt on Windows. Whoever designed that forgot to include the actual errors!  ::|
Anyway. Try to force a "Repair" by clicking the button in the launcher and see what happens.
Would be also interesting to know if you can start psclient.exe manually without crashing.

Hahaha, my ranting is infectious ;) (But I get better, I resisted teasing Minks yesterday when I saw she asked for an errorlog)

Back on topic:
If anyone can help with this, that'd be great, and I'm willing to test out things to see if I can provide more information :)
*gins* That was a mistake ;)

Okay, here we go. First try would be to get an actually meaningful errorlog. Any chance that you have a little bit of experience with the windows command prompt? To get some error-messages that might contain the real problem you had to start "pslaunch.exe" with a "--console" parameter. (Only made some instructions for psclient.exe but it should be the same for pslaunch.exe)

Next thing you can try is repairing the game without the pslaunch gui (Sorry, I'm not sure if that even works on windows...but it does on linux and macos so might be worth a try). For that just start "pslaunch --console --repair". If this fails too the console prompt output might be interesting as well.

And it also should be possible to download the file PSlaunch crashes on manually...but for giving instructions on that the above logs are needed.

Ran the standard Repair within the Launcher, and finally got through it- only to have the character creation messed up! :(
The screen in which you view your character is glitched so that it seems the bottom part is at the top, covering where the character's torso and head would be... Any ideas?

Now would be the appropriate time to tell us what kind of graphics chip you are using.  ;)
