Houses for Players
« on: June 21, 2012, 12:20:06 pm »
I think it would be pretty awesome if you could say rent or buy a house in some town. For example, there so many un-used  houses in Hydlaa that could be sold to players according to their size, appearance, etc. Also then there would be more point for buying furniture and decorations, and it would help improve RolePlaying in many aspects, I think. More families would be set up, and Im sure the number of villian characters would increase, who would want to break in and steal  . That would open up so much more possibilities and help make PlaneShift that much more life-like.
Sorry if this has been suggested before, but I couldnt find this topic being brought up here yet,  :)

Also, there would be a need for more NPCs who would have to somehow control this sale of houses, maybe using a list of available houses which be sort off ticked off as they are sold, and the houses could be sold and bought by other players from other players, in, say, auction.

Houses are sold to guilds otherwise we would finish off the houses pretty soon and adding new houses requires so much work for the 3D/2D devs. Another point is that only skilled and rich characters would be able to buy a home this way.

What about opening some standard houses and you say "first come first serve"? Meaning the ones who are there first can RP it is their house but it doesn't really belong to anyone?

this can be an idea, also having one or two houses for rent may be another option. you get the house for a small fee for a short period of time along with a key. in the meanwhile none but the ones who are given access by the renter can get in the house

Anything that involves giving keys to players for a short term use of a house is going to be a major pain to administer. Since when it comes time to get the keys back it takes a dev with access to the database to get keys back form people who are offline. Or it would mean making new lock and keys every time the house gets new renters. Just an open house would be a better idea.

We are trying to have a guild house auction once per month so more guilds will have a chance to have a house.

Also, all those extra houses with items in them could cause some stress on the server.

yes any solution that requires a manual intervention must be avoided at all cost. if house renting will be managed by the engine (one day) it can be the best solution, otherwise one free house in each major city can be the second best choice.
