running planeshift on a slower computer.
« on: June 05, 2003, 03:03:26 am »
ok..
here we go.
the specs:

800 Mhz
Nvidia TNT2 16 Mb Video Card
Windows XP
Using Software mode
using the slow (safe version)
running under 800*600
16 bit depth
both sound options enabled.

now, i need this somehow tweaked up.
playing this game is slow slow slow on my system
So, i wanted to know what would be the settings which would result in quick refresh rates and something which just goes fast. bandwidth and internet speed is not an issue.

just what settings (including settings in psclient.cfg) would make this game run damn fast on my little slow computer..
any idea?

Thank you for not calling it lag!

Do NOT run in software/safe mode, that should give some boost in performance.

Also reduce the resolution, your 3d card is very underpowered. Also, there should be some speed increases in future releases, just wait....
Thanks a lot Venge...

hehe I\'ll agree that too many people confuse a game running slowly with [network] lag.  Sure, network lag could be one of the problems, but framerate, hardware speed/processing power, and other factors need to be included.  Then again, people like to redefine words all the time.  Just look at how the term \"modem\" has been bastardized to include DSL Gateways into it (for those who don\'t know, modem = MOdulate/DEModulate - the method used to convert a digital (computer) signal into an analog (telephone) signal and back - which isn\'t used in ISDN or DSL systems, as the signal remains digital throughout the process).  Sorry, got off-track.

If your computer has a low framerate (even when not using the slow, software renderer) then you may be experiencing the same problems that others (like myself) are experiencing.  post your relavent information into the thread named \"Client is running slow ? Please contribute to this survey\" to possibly help the developers be able to track down the cause of this - seems to affect a pretty wide range of systems, unfortunately.

If it\'s any consolation, you\'re doing better than one of my friends, who has a 450MHz AMD K6-2 system.  And, until I can get some money to build myself a new one, I\'m stuck on a 200MHz Pentium-MMX system, a 333MHz Pentium-II system, and occasionally sneak in to work on my roommate\'s 1.4GHz Athlon XP 1600 system.
