Server? New to game need help.

Is this game still active? I've just download and installed. and it says server is down. It's trying to join the Laanx server is this the one I want, are there other? Is this routine mantaince if so when would it be back online?

Server is down for several hours. Probably new release.

Wonder why, when the server is supposedly down, I'm getting perfectly happy results most of the time from "pinging" the server the same way the client supposedly does. All I get is short "downtimes" from single failed queries (or sometimes a half-hour downtime, or even 106 minutes today from 10:13-11:59 UTC).
