Right,still waiting for my activation email so I waded through all the guides I could find,narrowing it down as I focused it towards the character I became interested in.

Basic concept:Lemur male,magic user.

After lots more study between here,the reg. page and the Wiki,it focused down into.

Lemur male,Enchanter,primarily Crystal way for healing,a Doctor type,with side interests in Blue,disease and poison curing,and Brown,for the nature side of it and a little protection.

So now He is a Doctor type,and inspired by the art and lore I have come to think of him as a "natural philosopher" type,along the lines of Newton and the society in his time,Alchemy,magic and books.
I realise that magic still isin't fully functional as yet,and in most conflict situations,he will be merely a support healer,though I am toying with the idea of throwing knives

I need a good name too,but a few are forming,but my main questions are,is this achievable,will such a char. be actually welcome and useful in a group?

Are Crystal,Blue and Brown worthwhile mechanically?

And mainly any advice on the creation process for him mechanically speaking?

I do realise that this is a RP world,if it wasnt,I wouldnt be here frankly....but dammit,I detest being the party leech or Sir Diesalot!

So any advice on my Renaissance Doctor would be much appreciated

Hello and welcome.

You are right, the focus on RP, the setting and the player base make this game quite special, while many aspects of game mechanics have been and will be in a stage of development - and therefore not fully functional.
I have the impression that some of the more recent features and developments fit very nicely for your considerations of character development. There have been great advances with the implementation of alchemy, and the addition of some spells made the ways of magic a bit more balanced, in particular blue way healing and brown way supportive spells. Crystal way has always been quite well developed. However, we rarely see groups of specialized players in player versus environment/monster activity, but this may change as the artificial intelligence (tribes) is being enhanced.
The only advice I have concerning mechanics and character creation: Your choice will lead to very low strength and endurance. While raising those might not fit well with your character, it will be a great help to get started, as you can carry more things without being exhausted quickly during your travels.

I can't speak to the mechanics of magic but in terms of RP you may want to look into Candy's idea: Hydlaa Asylum or perhaps look into working at the sanatorium. I'm not sure if anyone is still actively trying to work at the sanatorium.

And I was about to post that you may want to talk to LigH about playing a doctor character, right as he proceeded to post ahead of me... Since he found the thread maybe you can ask him for tips.

Well, general hints ... medics may have specialized in different areas. "Everyone can heal with Crystal magic" – but it takes more professional experience to avoid undesired remains; at least this is the conviction of Dr. Forita. You may know ... cleaning the wounds first and straightening broken bones before closing them, to reduce the risk of obvious ugly scars and twisted limbs. They may be healed, but are still a pain. That's why Dr. Forita became a surgeon. He wanted not only to heal the injuries, but to restore them as completely as possible. But he has not much experience in magic, herbalism, alchemy, and mental issues. Enough room for a colleague to equalize missing skills.

Hmm,the asylum sounds good,but I would like to get around a bit too,think the Chirrugoen in that Napoleonic war seafaring film,with a side order of m.a.s.h....of course he will be starting as a youngish poor as a church mouse third son who has too make his own way in the world,so stretcher bearer may be his first title

Welcome , when you arrive! 

You're already asking questions and thinking about your character more deeply than many, even 'veterans' might consider- great!!! 

It might be fun as you get acquainted in the world, for you to ask other players  around you to introduce you to some magicians, Crystal, Blue, Brown,  so you can start to learn about the rp uses- there are a number of folks who rp healers of various types, and their insights might be useful.  Plus its a great ruse to start meeting folks and making friend ig.
