No chat box?

I lost my chat box, I know it is there when I try and change settings on it it gets outlined, but I can not gett it to display it just happened out of the blue so I am not sure whats going on or what triggered it

It can be toggled by a hotkey when no window is active (e.g. you clicked into the 3D world), probably with "T" (talk). Check your key bindings in your Options window - "O".
