Klyran could use some flight, weather, etal jargon
« on: August 17, 2014, 11:12:45 pm »
First off, I'd like to thank everyone who's worked on Klyran so far, it's one of the best-defined IG languages we have, and it's a very nice touch in RP despite being little used, sadly.

*Klimnihafar scratches her headfin for a bit and thinks of how to say "cumulus congestus with moderate turbulence, looks like it'll be a full-grown cumulonimbus in a few hours" in Klyran...

Considering Klyros have wings and at minimum a gliding capability, wouldn't they have words for various flight and weather phenomena (various cloud types, turbulence, precipitation, and winds are a good start as far as weather goes, and aerodynamic stalls, spins, ground effect, wake vortices, and many others will wind up useful for aerodynamics/flight) in their language? Or am I going to have to go in and start adding some to the Wiki; if so, anyone have suggestions as to making Klyran words?

heh, flower lady looked at me funny when Pergerine said he needed the flowers to make the finest streamers for gliding across the canyon. Seeing as klyros have no feathers I planned on tying a string of flowers to his coat-tail.

lisp a lot ;)

Feel free to add some terms.
Usually when I attempt a new word I scan the vocabulary for similar meanings or basic glyphs, in your case zanlimni = aerial, klimni = air, kmilni = water, orn = to flow, lim = to fly, mil = to dive, and I try to combine a concept in one or two words.
A cloud could be "klimmilni", something like "objects of water in the air". But water in air is steam, so we could think of a new glyph incorporating water and air, calling it "lil" or "mim". So cloud = klilni.
Updrafts could be klimfoni, downdraft klimofni, and so on.

And that's what a phylology major is useful for, kids.

Anyone have a link to the klyran language? I'm too lazy to look for it myself.
