That was a nice collection of talks but I think that Andrew Stanton's was really the most relevant one for the topic of how to construct a story worth telling. His guidelines seem to hold up across genres and storytelling methods. However, I do wonder how one could apply that in RP without making the people who dislike directed plots uneasy. Essentially, how do you "hide the the fact that you are making them work" for it while most assuredly leading them down a mostly singular story path.

i was disappointed with JJ abrams'. it was less about the power of mystery and the withholding of information to propel the narrative forward and more about his grandfather and technology. enough with the lens flares already!

Well, I could live with the grandfather and technology part and even the lens flares. But, it came off as more of the nerdy, ranty character in a story trying to explain a new theory. But technically Stanton covered the basic issues of withholding information to propel a story in his talk.

Anyone following the link can probably get by if they only watch the third talk, "The Clues to a Great Story."

yeah, the reason i was dissapointed is because Abrams withholds information so gods damned well! i thought he'd talk more about that in his work...
