Hello All!
« on: September 16, 2014, 04:06:31 pm »
Hello everyone!

I didn't see an "introduce yourself" forum, so I hope it's ok I post my own introduction here.

I go by the handle of Quiiliitiila, a name that has followed me for the past 12 years of various RP games. I got my start (and the name) from an MMO game called Horizons, which is now called Istaria. Amazingly, after more than 12 years, that game is still running. Not unlike Planeshift in that they are supported entirely by the players and a few dedicated devs.

I've been a tabletop RPer since forever, and can play anything from D&D 1st edition to 5th, Call of Cthulhu, Pathfinder, etc. If it's a role playing game the chances are good that I've played it before.

More recently I've taken to LARPing with legitimate groups who run good quality games. Nothing like actually getting out there and doing what you RP on a computer or table.

In "real" life I'm a criminal justice student at the University of New Haven with a focus on investigations. However, I'm currently not enrolled for this semester because I'm due to ship out to my basic training and AITs. I'm going to be Military Police in the reserves and then go back to finish my degree through the ROTC program (grabbing an officer's commission too!). So, unfortunately you won't see much of me starting October 20th and lasting for 32 weeks.

Disclaimers:
While I'm an awesome RPer, I'm a dreadfully slow typer sometimes.
I have NO preconceived notions of what "should" be good and evil. Don't expect me to be good or evil based on my characters class or beliefs. My actions drive my alignment and my opinions of others are based off their actions as well.

That's all I can think off now! Glad to be here and I hope to see you in game!

there's really no such thing as character class or alignment. you are, in fact, perfectly welcome to max out every stat and skill in the game if you have the time and desire to do so. although, i would consider it good form to have a clear picture of your character and their motivations, in order to create a sense of continuity among their actions/reactions.

RP here is really entirely separate from the rest of the 'mechanical' game.

I wouldn't worry too much about typing celerity; if you happen upon the right players, they will wait patiently for your posts.

also, welcome, i hope you have fun.
all blessings to the assembled devotees.

I've had bad experiences in the past with people being pissed at my roleplaying a character or class in a different way than what they expected. Like it or not, many people already have an image of what X, Y or Z is or should be and often I'll take that and flip it. I was a Shadowbane Inquisitor (Paladin) in one game where most people expected paladins to act a certain way. My character however was driven with such zeal to destroy darkness that he felt most ends justified the means. Petty tyrant torturing his people? Kidnap his family until he turns himself over to me for... Justice   8)

Needless to say that got some other paladin players up in arms and I eventually left because of their displeasure.

I'e already got a pretty solid idea in mind for my character's mind and motivations. Plus some quests I just stumbled upon have given my character some definite interest.

Glad to be here!

Quiiliitiila, good to have you with us.

I am not much of a rp'er myself, but I really love PS. I have RA and being an old man I am rather slow, at times.

btw, Waesed will hunt you down if you are evil, but not just for being a Dark Way mage. ;)

I now manage the Red Crystal Den and you will find good opportunities for rp when we are open. I hope to be open a lot more very soon.

As Aramara stated, there are no rigid alignments in the Planeshift world. Personally I find it far more fun to play around in the murky grey rather than limit things to strict blacks and whites. The most fascinating character interactions have been when arguing different moral values for me, frequently lending interesting insight on how a compass can form uniquely for a person. What's bad for one person may translate as necesary or even good to another. Aramara's alt, Icerra, was a pretty fun example of that, as was Travosh, Teshia, Miomai, Shangshi, Thidin, and at one point Rigwyn (before the character caterwauled right off the crazy cliff. Love you riggers.) Probably one of the most poingant scenes I ever role played was between Rigwyn and my character Evirea, in which they spoke about what qualified as justification for many of his grevious affronts. Rigs is always interesting because even though what he does is so obscene, when you known his motivations and reasons, you can find yourself almost agreeing, or at least seeing things his way. I wish I could find those logs...

At any rate, I'm just rambling now, but you get the idear. I still poke about PS on occasion, perhaps I shall bump into you!

Again, welcome.

If you feel that your individual way of RP needs some sort of explanation or information for others, you can put this into the OOC part of your description.

If some are still not happy - well, at least you tried!  :)

See you in-game,

Gonger

Welcome Q!

PS has a buffet style approach to building character abilities. Mechanics-wise you can work any skill to any level. RP-wise, you're gonna get the twitchy-eye stare if you try to play a master-at-everything :)  The quests are a great source of settings information as well as any in-game books.

Finding RP can be a little tricky when the player count is low and you don't know where people are. Be sure to ask in the OOC gossip tab or on the forums if you have trouble finding people. You can usually find people in the Hydlaa Plaza and Kada El's Tavern, but the places where people gravitate to changes from time to time. Also, usually role players are usually the only folks who will bother to make a character description - which you can see by right clicking on the character in question.

PS. Watch out for Kaerli - she can be annoying at times  xD

So where can I find some IG books to read? I'd like to know a bit more about the setting and history so that I can hold my own in some RP in the future. These are things my character would know (basic history, geography, basics of how magic works) but I don't.

I figure I'll hit up the library when I get on today but if there's another place to go, just let me know!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
