/write to Work on Targeted Public Books
« on: October 25, 2014, 08:40:58 am »
I don't know if it is possible, but it would be nice if one could use /write on targeted books placed and locked in the world. This would facilitate things like guest books, leaving messages for others, writing down orders for things while the player is absent. It could be used more creatively as well. A locked public books that could be written to without picking it up could be placed on a wall and serve as a public art space. If it were place on a message board or some such thing, players could write on it instead of stacking up books and could be useful for a new item kind of thing as well.

Interesting idea. If a book is protected as a locked item, then a corresponding write feature should probably also protect previous entries, I don't know. Maybe only the item's owner should be allowed to delete text blocks from others, similar to the (rarely used) guild notes feature.

Yes, I love this idea.  And Boni's mod too.  I've been thinking about an agony aunt type of column in the newspaper, in which people write in with questions/problems/situations, and the agony aunt gives advice.  But putting a notebook in a tavern would be even better maybe.

I tried this a couple of times in gossip, it was called "Dear Nico" and was awesome (in the sense that it was funny and the questions I got were great).

If it is possible and easy to do, would love to see a locked book like this in the Stonehead where the citizens could write about their love or life problems and get advice on how to solve.

Guild notes feature? In my case, not used because totally unknown. How does it work, please?

[off topic: What I mean with guild notes: In the members tab of the guild window, there are two buttons to leave a private or public note for a selected guild mate. As far as I remember, public notes can be read by all guild mates, and there is a checkbox for leaving notes in the privs tab. The feature is not quite useful as there are no notifications for new notes.]

Definitely would need the owners and GMs to be able to delete blocks as there is always some person that will mess it up.
