Purchaseable Sleep Glyph?
« on: December 22, 2014, 07:11:34 am »
Hi everyone!

I'll try not to put too many spoilers in here, but let's say that I'd like to see a certain chatty NPC that sells glyphs stock the sleep glyph.  It's an incredibly helpful glyph for mages, and as it is now, I'm afraid that both quest lines for the glyph seem to have OOC hangups.  Perhaps the said chatty NPC could sell the sleep glyph instead of the current glyph that is for sale, and that glyph could be the quest reward?  That is, basically swapping the glyphs?

Hmm... I like it! The only problem would be that the purchasable glyphs are usually used for the first, very simple spell to learn. The spell that you're talking about probably should require some work to acquire. I think it would make a good reward for a small, repeatable quest where you can choose your reward.

Sleep glyph can be purchased if the price is right, along with many others much in demand.

I know one of the quests is considered objectionable by some characters -- is the other quest of a similar nature, or is it simply nonfunctional/dysfunctional?

If not changed, you get one as you do the Azure Circle quests.

I like Demagul's idea of it being a repeateable quest reward, but I'd even settle for a non-repeatable one.  Actually, doesn't the chatty NPC have a quest already that offers glyphs as a reward?  Maybe it could just be added as an option there.

@Kaerli and Divod, the other quest is functional as far as I know, but in IC terms it has your character signing up to be an Azure Way mage despite which way they would actually want to follow.  It would be nice if there was a quest that would be reasonably IC for most people to do that offered it as a reward.

Thanks everyone for the info and suggestions :-)

I can understand many not wanting to deal with the unwashed female thief but one needs the knowledge to use the glyphs of the many Ways. You run the risk of harming yourself and others in your ignorance.

I think it would be OOC to use a spell from a Way that you would not study.

Perhaps the other ways need means to do the same thing.

I don't think it would be a major break as it's okay for characters to learn the basic spells from each Way (and the spell in question is relatively simple).  Even if the character isn't planning to study Azure mainly, other Ways like Crystal align with it (for example, it wouldn't be uncommon to find a Crystal mage with some understanding of Azure).

And Bilbous, I think I see the point you are trying to make.  But it is (sort of) already implemented in that the chatty NPC already sells a glyph from each of the Ways.  I was initially requesting that he sell a different glyph for Azure because of the glyph's usefulness. ;-)

Thanks everyone!
