Since my return to PlaneShift playing a regular main.

-We  need guilds, badly. We undervalue how important they are to make players feel included, and what they contribute to RP.
Someone once told me not to offer ideas without possible solutions. My solution is for you all to make them :D kidding. I don't know how to best run a guild, but maybe we can find some ways to integrate them further? Thoughts?

A few ( as in 2 or 3 ) guilds might do better than lots of underpopulated guilds. I've thought about possibly tossing around the idea of making a dark way based guild but honestly, I don't think there's enough players that would be interested and I don't know that I would really have the time to put into it.

We've all seen our share of guilds that offer nothing more than a name to hang over your character. I would probably discourage against doing that if possible. There are lots of those and in my opinion, they are more about one player gathering subservient followers to make them feel like they are a step higher than an ordinary player.

A guild that can generate its own role play, claim a stake in the world, and entertain fellow players might be a good thing though. Few players are good at leading like this. And by leading, I don't mean being a nooby pimp with a little procession following you, I mean being of service to your guild mates and going out of your way to make the game fun for them.

That's what I'm saying. Maybe restructure the guild process so you need 10 members to open one? Idk. Be a bit more stringent so that when a guild is created it's meaningful to the players involved.

Of course like Rignar is saying, that means the players need to offer service to each other.

Hey don't knock being a "nooby pimp" I had no idea what the heck I was doing with DOX, only that there was an idol on a tree and a blue elf named Lhaa saying "do it" but YES, please someone, anyone make more RP guilds, at least one more?  I suggest writing a strong mission that you can truly envision as something players will get behind, that promotes and enhances roleplay in the realm.

A voice whispers to Rigwyn, "build it and they will come"  or someone (nudge nudge Rig) please bring The Outlaws back to life, I never got to play there before.

The Outlaws dried up and died unfortunately. I would not bother to try to bring it back at this point. In hindsight, it was good as a social rp guild and that worked well with a big crowd, but it was not really story driven or story focused.

As for an RP guild, I think at this point, I'm more interested in story/action based rp than purely social rp. BY action rp, I mean providing other players with challenges for their characters and stories that they can connect to and get involved with. Creating quests and objectives for fellow players that satisfy in-character needs and demands.

I really like that rp that is and has been happing with the players who I have been interacting with lately and would not want to do anything that might change or jeopardize that.

I agree with you Rigwyn and think if anyone, you could set a new standard for rp guilds in PS...I have been looking at how to keep things thriving in DOX without a stream of new players, it will take delicate finessing and maybe a few well placed bombs from time to time.

and oh how I know that the outlaws are dead...was just a nostalgic thought I said out loud.

the main broblem i generally see in guilds is number of players.there is serious lack of them.i had a few nice ideas for guilds but the broblem was number of players.it's useless to make dead guilds too.(as in you make a guild but it dies soon)

Thanks Eonwind, I have slowly been making introductions with GM's and working with them on events, I will say here in forums again, that the current team is very rp friendly and I will keep that in mind for future possibilities.

Alt guilds never die, they sometimes get deleted. Why I had just such a one myself that I destroyed. Ahh -- the Order of the Odd Cod with its ever changing alliterative guild tag. Who can forget such inspired silliness.

No offence but personally, I would not dump control of the game or plot into the lap of some gm that I don't know.

I have worked with a select few players in the past and asked them for help in running events, but these were players who I knew pretty well and trusted based on the RP that I've seen them in.

A gm can spawn monsters and throw their voice, but that alone does not add anything substantial to the RP. It looks nice if done well, but the core of the event is in the rp, the story, and the interactions between players.

First off: you don't need to dump the control of an event in the GMs hands, you can propose (respectfully) your idea and you can work it out together with them the details.
Sometimes all is needed is to advertise your event on the calendar, other times it may take some slight effect (e.g. fog or rain) or to lock down some specially prepared item, other times it a GM char maybe required (like a Guard or an Officer), in these case of course you can't pretend to drive their characters actions which must be used by following the usual GM and settings policy for using NPCs.

Rigwyn, I think you did not understand Eonwind. He does not speak of control, he speaks of further options and possibilities that are available through GM participation.
