[Roster] RP adventure? expedition in death realm
« on: July 21, 2015, 04:13:58 am »
As some of you may remember from earlier, I was on the gossip channel looking for interest in discussing the Death Realm.  My intent was to eventually develop an RP adventure expedition in to the Death Realm and beyond.  I.e., Gedundk will eventually want to do that, and maybe others would help krað on kras way.

I'm looking to gauge interest in such a thing, because I recognize several logistic problems:
  • the number of active players is too small for me to expect much while merely sitting about the libraries or visiting the Knowledge Seekers' tent
  • the extant Death Realm and the surrounding areas are too small for exploration —
    • formulate the raison d'etre for the death realm, and whether the other areas around it represent similar death realms or other places entirely, and what the Dark Crystal means to those places
    • what is “death” for PlaneShift?
    • how much power does Dakkru have?  does she have many peers, masters, enemies, or so?  why does she care for the Dark Crystal so much?  (some of this conjectured in other discussions here)
    • design some areas that could be explored beyond the extant DR, including at least
      • expansion of the Yliakum & Friends funzone
      • the places further along a gradient of accessibility for PCs that are slain
  • scheduling of planning and preparations per the interests of the parties to such an adventure, which could be anything from a short little romp and a lot of discussions to an epic excursion on par with a commercial expansion pack :D

I had a lot of fun with Mariana, Cwyndeth and others doing this sort of thing in the past. We traveled to areas not on the map so to speak. The nice thing about it is that imagation really takes hold when you have no graphics to dictate how you should see the world. Good Luck!

I'd love to join, and with an bit of IC convincing Demagul (or Veirys) would too! If something like this happens in early September or later you can count me in!

This looks like quite a bit of fun! I hope it's an enjoyable time.

I regret to announce that this is the end.

I bid you all a very fond farewell

So, depending on when I can get my connection problems repaired, Gedundk will begin discussing the Death Realm and sharing essays and treatise regarding kras understanding of it.

It looks like early autumn (northern hemisphere) would be a good time, then?  Not only to accomodate Demagul, either.

At the very least, we need to have some in-game capability to descend, safely, from the DR structure as presently available, and to climb back up when finished:  the details will be resolved in-game.  Even if we discover nothing new, that doesn't assure us there is nothing to be discovered.

Rigwyn, Mariana, Cwyndeth, et al, would it be too much trouble for you to provide some links to RP posts here?

there used to be a way down, but it required a mount and max hp and strength. don't know if it was ever changed. once you get down there's a little hut that teleports you to the beginning. that's about all that's down there.
all blessings to the assembled devotees.

As per the descent to the DR 'floor' *ahem* you might ask an Explorer to show you the way. That's what Explorers do...   ::)

This was one exampe of  "off the map"  RP. This scene started in the death realm Citadel, but then continued elsewhere in the DR - somewhere not represented by the game itself. I don't think I got a chance to write about the adventure with Cwyndeth's character, if iI did, then I'm not sure where it was written.

There would probably be a lot of RP leading up to plan the journey too. It's doubtful that such an adventure would go as planned, but figuring out how to descend could make some pretty interesting discussion and RP (searching through guild libraries, finding a Death Realm guide, etc.) Of course, all of those are only possibilities. There are so many ways it could go if that happened.
