Too few knows of Planeshift!
« on: June 14, 2003, 03:54:24 pm »
As a MMORPG-player I get some online friends that playes MMORPG even more than I do. But noone ever knows what Planeshift are, but when I tell em\' about it they get really impressed.

When will the massive \"campains\" start so people can learn about Planeshift?
Game websites are always waiting for exlusive shit about games so why not let the leaders do some interviews with magazines and websites?

The swedish Pcgamer magazine always want exlusives for their MMORPG sections and I bet other magazines want that too.

Myself I often do a Planeshift topic in game websites I visit..

I certainly hope nobody knows about Planeshift.

The average (or below) online gamer is looking for a game with lots of fighting, action, quests, and options to go nuts with. Being that this game is in pre-alpha, the average online gamer will be dissatisfied, because you can do none of these things. Also, being that the average online gamer is typically impatient and without foresight, they will be angry and contemptuous towards the game because it does not offer these things right now, when they want them.

The average online gamer likes to recommend games to their other online gamer friends. Being that they are thus completely dissatisfied with this game, they will begin spreading bad publicity.

As you can see, the \'average online gamer\' is probably not the type of person the development team wants to be testing their game pre-alpha. The development team probably wants gamers that are helpful, insightful, full of ideas, and know how to properly report bugs. This type of target audience is NOT achieved by mass-promoting. Do we really want another wave of \'this game sucks\' posts flooding the board? We have enough already, in my opinion. I can even give a few examples.

Here, and here (in regards to the rude people),.

Well I heard about the game as a real coincident. If I hadn\'t heard about it I would never had be able to help develop the game.

There may be lots of people willing to help develop it and has the knowledge but haven\'t heard about the game..

Think about how much of the general public would be able to help in the actual development of this game, AND would do it for free. Not very many, right? Then the Devs, if they feel the need for extra help and so chose, could send a \'help wanted\' message out somewhere where a small audience of people skilled as freelance game developers would read it. NOT the general public. No \'massive campaigns\' will begin until the game is essentially complete. There are plenty of average people here to do the non-developing help already. With a ton of useless people, it becomes more difficult.

Well okey you got a point there. I was recently checking out the Black Isle forum and it was totally spamned down with posts like \"when will Fallout3 be ready\".. I wouldn\'t what that to happen here more than it already is.

But still I\'m affraid that people like me that really wants to help and hasn\'t got time to check MMORPG forums\\websites all the time might not know of Planeshifts exsitens before it is realesed.

if we let the general public in that would mean millions of the imuture type kids would come on, and ruin the game, think about it, no money online, wow free verquest to them, people like that could come and ruin this game too! i dunno mayybe a little to extreme i just want this to be a good game with people who can cooperate and will not turn PS into a DOOD speak game

my how times have changed.....

i\'m completely with Valfaran on this one ...one thing that makes \"alternative\" software great is that they stay an alternative, not mainstream. mainstream carries too many people who cannot appreciate alternatives ...it\'s contradictory actually ...i\'ll stop now, i don\'t think i make sense ...need sleep ...but i\'m still 100% behind Valfaran on this one

well I would like to see PS a little more pulicised when it reaches a playable state but not now PS has a great community and I would hate to see it wrecked by little kid know it alls  and when it reaches a good version with lots of features then maybe the PS team should start appraoching PC magazines to put it on there cover disc and I bet they would gobble it up and put it on the words FREE GAME on the front of a cover disc sells magazines you know
