Winch access
« on: March 15, 2016, 05:48:25 pm »
Hi guys!
I have a little question to you. But first, I would like to say that I don't want spoilers or "step-by-step" guide or something like that. Probably like every other newbie, I'd like to gain Winch Access, mostely because of the opportunity to get a mount.
I realize it's not easy to get it and I agree with that - it shouldn't be. However, I've read there are 3 possibilities how to do it. And my question is - is it really possible to get WA without helping guards now? I want to know it because helping guards etc. doesn't fit to my a bit "anarchist" character, she is a rebel a bit.  Of course, if there is no other option, she will have to do it, but I'd like to find it out soon.
Thanks for help!

Welcome aboard, Lena.

We know a way for the lawful character, one for an "outlaw", and one for a merchant who knows when to use a chance in either way.

I guess it won't be too hard to find similar minded characters in game who would share a few hints for a few ... let's say, accomodations. ;D

The lenght varies a bit too, i myself use guards way but i have had broblems with it (could be that i started before few updates and continued afterwards ;D ).

If you ever got stuck, doing every quest might help.  :whistling:

Thanks for good news!  :) I know, Dilihin - doing more quests is always a good solution. I'm glad I have a chance to get it without helping those strange people near city gates. :D

Most folks either:

A. Join a guild and ask someone in their guild how to do it.
( In the old days at least, guilds provided quest guides, resource maps and so on)

Or

B.  Look for a quest guide on google.

Now this is an unofficial answer, but it's the truth. The planeshift staff will probably wave their hands and freak out over me saying this. Oh well.

Thank you for your hints, Rigwyn. "They were good days. Yes... they have been good days." (H. Poirot) :D But seriously, I hope I didn't spam this forum with my question (without irony). To guilds: I know, it could be better, more IC maybe, I realize that... But I won't join a guild because of a question and as a beginner I don't want to join any guild yet (I barely know their names...). And sure, I was looking for the answer on google: as I mentioned, I found out there are 3 ways how to get the access, but I just wasn't sure it's still actual (I was reading some posts in this forum and found out there were some changes in last years).
Hopefully anybody will freak out neither over you nor me. :D

I did not only mean "guilds" by "similar minded characters". My main hint was to talk to people in-character. :flowers:

LigH, I think Lena was still talking about Rigwyn's post. He mentioned guilds:

Oh yes. And welcome to PlaneShift, Lena! I wish you luck on your quest to gain winch access.

Dili!  So helpful  ;D.

Lena, welcome.  Sounds like you got the help you need, but you can send me a tell in game if you need more help and I'm on.  I do vaguely remember the 3 methods to get into the Winch.  I know the main reason to go there is for a mount (pretty much the only reason for most people), but it's also a very cute quiet place with good quests.  You can sit on the actual Winch apparatus and dangle your feet off the side.  If you fall down into the Winch ocean/sky, you don't die either.  I love that.  I dueled there a few times because of that feature.

Anyway, welcome and do your anarchy thing, sounds great .

B.  Look for a quest guide on google.
No, do not!

The quest guides on google are terribly outdated and they can be misleading you in some case instead of helping out.

The settings department in the last years has worked a lot on the quest chains to clean them up and add hints and dialogs to point your character to the next quest in the chain.

Therefore my suggestion is to:
1. pay attention when you end a quest because the NPC should hint you who to go speak next
2. if you forgot or it's still not clear look at your quest notes, they can be a valuable source of information
3. if you still have some difficulty understanding where to go next this probably means the quest dialogs are not clear enough or needs improvement. In that case please open a petition telling you problem in the clearest possible way. Venalan or Mordaan (settings department leaders) will provide feedback and if a bug is spotted they will fix it at the first opportunity.

Of course joining a guild and getting help from other players is important as well but pointing out where bug are give us the chance to fix them and improve the game :)

I didn't want to reply more, but you're so kind all! :) (And yes, also a bit cuz I'm a little sarcastic and want to bury Mishka's post as she wrote.  :innocent:)

Exactly! Thanks for suggestions, Eonwind.  :)

Oh yeah, I did! I'm not a person who thinks that doing quests is against IC, I think it improves the character, so I'd like to do them (except of some). But be sure, I'll remember you and send a tell if necessary, thanks!

LigH, I think Lena was still talking about Rigwyn's post.
Yep. ;)

Anyway, it's never wrong to talk to the people in Yliakum. What could possibly happen?! ... Well, maybe some reading in Dakkru's library.
