What's the good word?
« on: March 20, 2017, 11:16:28 pm »
Hey friends!

Does anyone play this anymore? I don't ask that facetiously, I promise.

I want to get back into this game, as I love(d) it, I really do. But it's super hard for me to just....come back & play with people who a.) don't want to play with me, b.) aren't RPing anyhow, and c.) I have to wait on for hours to even show up because time zones are different.

Last few times I logged in, the game had gone to the levelers. Now - more power to you late night French or German cliques who play together, I bet it is a blast.

But if it's a less than ~20 player base with maybe 1-4 RPers unlikely to meet when I'm on, I think hey, it's a good time to bid this game a permanent farewell.
I regret to announce that this is the end.

I bid you all a very fond farewell

Oh no you can find lots of RP still, you just to look for it or create some yourself some times. Weekends seem to be more popular as well as for RP I tend to see more  in evenings USA time zone wise. But I mean it's there all the time and always looking for people to start some up and make it more interesting for more to log on and interact with us.

I feel you Cairn, it's hard nowadays! Best bet would be probably straighy asking from the ooc channel or from IRC if anyone wangs to RP, q lot easier than running around for hours just to find grinders  :) Whenever i'm on i'm up to RP, or even when i'm not on you can just ask from irc.

I don't often take up an avatar, but when I do, it is most often as Gedundk.  Kra does what kra does; although some of that may look like levelling, don't let appearances fool you.
Also, kra doesn't usually run around when in Hydlaa or Gugrontid.  Maybe that would help you make the distinction?

I guess I'm saying that if you see Gedundk, and your avatar is feeling chatty or friendly, don't hesitate to greet.

Yes, Cairn, it is not that easy at the moment.
We do have quite a few new players, but many of them are totally incommunicado. They do not react when you greet or whisper them, and have no descriptions. It will take a lot of time to see them turn to real RP, and some of them will be hopeless cases. But we will keep on trying to set them on the right path!  ;)
Still, there are others. Open your eyes, look at people, and the market was already mentioned.
Time zones may also play a role. I am from the very heart of Europe. What about you?
See you in-game, I hope!

Hey, look, it's Cairn! Alive and posting, no less! Now to the topic at hand.

I myself am a fairly active RPer, and I can say that I usually find that the weekends and U.S. evenings tend to be more popular for RP, but that's not to say it's impossible to find at other times. It just sometimes takes a little bit of poking gossip or /telling RPers (some will have it in their OOC description that they're absolutely open to RP, and you can check this on MyPlane with the ones that have their character's "basic" visibility setting turned on for everyone).

Of course there are some days that lull a bit in the RP more than others, but once you start to get know the names of the RPers, poking other players for RP or even purposefully/accidentally bumping into them IG would work. Naturally there's also the option of walking about and attempting RP with whomever you come across. Lots of times people just need a slight nudge. Or a slightly harder nudge, and maybe a little patience depending on how AFK they are.

As was already mentioned, the markets on Sundays are a nice place to get together and RP, and if you can, I'd recommend attempting to stop by there.

*Tidebringer coughs and adds, "Step on someone's toes. Trip over your own and stumble against somebody or something. Greet someone cheerfully and comment upon the weather. Invite them to get a drink. Try to get them to get you a drink. Ask them what's been going on. Hawk some random wares you might have. Chase after somebody like a madman while holding a fork... the possibilities go on and on. Truly, there's a lot that can get one's attention."

Another good time to meet other players would be at the upcoming GM events!

We have two scheduled currently: March 25th and April 1st, both at 20:00 GMT.

Hey there.

I won't tell you the playerbase isn't low nowadays - it would be lying. Yet, don't assume that most players aren't RPers. From what I could see, there's quite a lot of players among the active ones who are RPers - be them apprentices or experts, that's not the matter ; yet don't usually appear to be RPing. I have some ideas about the reason why ; one is an awkwardness for RPing the everyday life, and I'm among the ones having this issue. I'm not much the idle talk type, nor are any of my characters. Another is, it is not always easy to RP something interesting when your character is typically a scientist, a mage, an artist or a rogue, or any kind of people who are way more interesting to play when their peers are around.
So yeah, I for example spends more time doing something else than RPing - yet what's the more interesting for me has always and will always be RPing. And when I'm not RPing, it's surely because I don't know what to RP and whom to RP with.
Also a bit because I don't feel legitimate to RP a character being talented in anything they have no IG skill in, but oh well, that is my own problem and I never asked anyone to think like me.

I second what others have already posted: You can find RP in the game if you are willing to poke people and frequent likely places such as the market and GM event sites. Just bear in mind there are player sponsored events as well, which may not get as much publicity. Read the forum and pay attention to in-game message boards, a poster may appear from time to time. Also Kada El's tavern and Harnquist's smithy are likely places where you can find others lingering about, make the rounds to see if you can find other players there. And if you ever see Migg in-game just say hi, if I'm not AFK I am always open to RP, though our timezones are many hours apart.

Is this a good place for me to again express my thoughts on the distinction between role–play and scenario?
Behaving as a kran is one thing; having a scenario in which to do so is another.
